The 3 students in the group were so inquisitive when they saw the different colored bags. I let them take out all the items and I showed them how to use each one. I started a phonemic awareness activity of segmenting sounds with the cards and the Pop-its. They loved it! The next time I pulled that group the first thing they asked was if they were going to use the bags again.\r\nI used the sight word game with my kindergarten reading groups to \"go fish\" for sight words. It was amazing how attentive they were and focused. It taught ME a lot about the next steps in my teaching after the game was over. \r\nThe Versitiles were used with a group of 2 ELL students who are just learning how to read English in first grade. They were so eager to use the tiles to read and match words and turn it around to self check their work.\r\nThank you again for your generous contribution. It has created a more engaging and effective learning environment for my kiddos to grow and succeed.","fullyFundedDate":1743096089400,"projectUrl":"project/motivational-manipulatives-to-learn-phon/9045983/","projectTitle":"Motivational Manipulatives to Learn Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, and Fluency","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Bivona-Rocco","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9890965_orig.jpg?crop=553,554,x0,y44&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1736512826336","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9890965"},{"teacherId":671208,"projectId":8745842,"letterContent":"I cannot even begin to tell you the impact that the materials you purchased have had on my classroom and my students. The black puzzle mats created a homey atmosphere where my students can meet to do work, read or hear a story. Unlike a classroom rug, I was able to buy a small Swiffer mop and keep it clean and germ free. I was also able to teach my students how to mop the mats to help them develop ownership over the materials as well as provide some heavy pressure work for sensory input when it is needed to help them calm down. I even had enough extra mats after creating our group meeting area to make a matted area for our calming corner. \r\n\r\nThe cushions have been a big hit. They students love taking them to sit on when they do group work on the floor. They excitedly run over to where I keep them and tell me again and again how comfortable they are in our room now. \r\n\r\nThe wobble stools provide additional sensory input for my fidgety third graders and help them to focus and learn even more. \r\n\r\nYour kindness and generosity will not soon be forgotten. Thanks to your contribution, we were able to purchase a new, colorful carpet that has already made a significant impact on our daily routines and the learning environment. It has truly become the heart of our classroom. \r\n\r\n Each child has their own \"smiley spot,\" which they report to during our morning meetings and throughout the day for lessons. This personal space provides them with a sense of ownership and belonging, and it has transformed our learning atmosphere.\r\nThe students have also found creative ways to use the carpet during playtime and independent reading. Many of them love reading to their \"book buddies,\" which are stuffed animals they bring to the carpet, while others enjoy using the space to play during centers. The carpet has also become a cozy spot for indoor recess movie days, offering a sense of comfort on rainy days when we can't go outside.\r\n\r\n The impact has been more than just functional; it has brought a sense of joy and excitement to our classroom. The moment they walk in and see the colorful, smiley faces on the carpet, their faces light up, and the positivity is contagious. It's a daily reminder of the warmth and community we've built together.\r\nWe've also received numerous compliments from other teachers and students who have noticed how much brighter and more inviting our classroom feels. Your generosity has not only provided a valuable resource but has helped to foster an environment where learning feels fun, comfortable, and joyful.\r\n\r\n Once again, thank you for your incredible generosity. Your donation has truly made a difference in the lives of my students, and we are so grateful for your support in making our classroom a more welcoming and engaging space.\r\nWith heartfelt thanks,","fullyFundedDate":1725656180152,"projectUrl":"project/sitting-with-a-smile/8500338/","projectTitle":"Sitting with a Smile","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Marino","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8812834"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_23312","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":344,"numTeachers":33,"percentFrplEligible":83,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":7,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":89,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"10.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":75.5,"schoolId":23312,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Thomas A Edison Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Thomas A Edison Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/port-chester-rye-union-free-school-district/thomas-a-edison-elementary-school/23312"}
