Having engaging books available for students to choose from has encouraged them to read more often and has given them opportunities to discover stories and characters that connect with their own interests and experiences.\r\n\r\nOne of the most rewarding parts of this project has been seeing students get excited about books. Students have been able to explore new stories, share recommendations with their classmates, and talk about what they are reading. These materials have also allowed me to create more opportunities for students to discuss characters, themes, and important moments in a story rather than simply reading for an assignment. My students are learning that books can make them laugh, think, wonder, and see the world from someone else's perspective.\r\n\r\nAs we continue through this school year, we will keep using these books as part of our independent reading, classroom discussions, and reading activities. The availability of headphones has significantly improved students' ability to engage in independent learning and complete their work with fewer distractions. Students are now able to focus more easily on their tasks rather than on surrounding noise.\r\nThe use of headphones has also made it possible for multiple activities to take place simultaneously without overwhelming students with competing sounds. As a result, I no longer receive requests for students to work in the hallway or another space to find quiet and students are more likely to engage with the material multiple times. The classroom is now better structured to support a variety of activities at once, while still providing each student with an individualized and comfortable workspace.\r\nAdditionally, this change has had a meaningful impact on students with disabilities. Many students previously felt the need to mask or hide their need for differentiation or assistance to avoid standing out among their peers. With access to headphones, students who benefit from text-to-speech tools can now use them discreetly. This has allowed them to process information in ways that work best for them, without drawing attention or feeling self-conscious.\r\nAs a result, we have seen a decrease in avoidance behaviors and discomfort around reading supports. Students are more willing to engage with text, use available tools, and take ownership of their learning. Simply offering headphones to the entire class has removed much of the tension around providing accommodations and has helped ensure all students are set up for success. Most importantly, students are recognizing their own progress and seeing firsthand how tools like text-to-speech can positively impact their learning.\r\nI am grateful for your support and the difference it has made in my students' success.
