My students already know how to read, but this new space has encouraged them to read more by choice and explore different kinds of books based on their interests.\r\n\r\nThey enjoy sitting in the corner, choosing a book, and sometimes reading together or talking about what they read. The books that reflect parts of their own lives or cultures have especially increased their interest. They often recognize something familiar and start sharing their thoughts or personal experiences.\r\n\r\nThis reading corner has helped them build a stronger habit of reading for enjoyment, not only during lessons. It gives them a calm space to relax, read freely, and feel more confident expressing their ideas in English.\r\n\r\nThank you for supporting my ENL students and helping them develop a genuine love for reading.","fullyFundedDate":1744203765163,"projectUrl":"project/a-special-space-for-enl-readers/9060824/","projectTitle":"A Special Space for ENL Readers","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Kocak Gul","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9894560"},{"teacherId":7793345,"projectId":8600101,"letterContent":"thank you so much to Young Sheldon Origination, The Gates Foundation and to every individual donor, parents, friends and anonymous donors for funding our Make your Mark grant and providing my students with materials to create collaborative drawings. My students were encouraged to share ideas, shapes, forms, paper, color pencils, stencils and more into a collaboration. With the materials this grant provided we were able to draw many types of shapes and animals and in the process learn about each other and explore other methods of creating. This grant helped my students with team building, sharing resources to create a project that became a big collaboration. Working together and using the resources you provide helped us go beyond, we decided to use our new skill to create banners for the Luna New Year. \r\n\r\nMy students were very excited, especially because many of the supplies were new to them. They used the rubbing plates and stencils to create shapes inside the Chinese dragons. Did I mention that we created collaborative scroll Chinese dragons for the Luna New Year? I was able to display their work in the community meeting and parents were invited. My students were very proud of their work. I was very proud of my students teamwork and how they learned to share and respect each other's marks! I believe this project helped them feel part of the classroom community, because I observed students helping each other. The impact that I loved was after a while they build layers and the stencils became abstract marks, my students gained the confidence to make their own marks! The success of this collaboration gives me ideas to continue having them work on collaborations, so they grow ,thrive and use their new skills.","fullyFundedDate":1731513981141,"projectUrl":"project/make-your-mark/8600101/","projectTitle":"Make Your Mark!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Daliz","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7793345_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1693868416800","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7793345"},{"teacherId":7793345,"projectId":8287403,"letterContent":"the Pollinator drawing and painting project was very successful because of your wonderful support. My students enjoyed experimenting with the wet on wet on sturdy paper that did not rip. They made various drafts of the different pollinators they studied and selected their favorite one to paint with the liquid water colors on mix media paper. I apologize for the delay of this report, my camera media seemed to hit a snag, and it took a long time to recover the pictures. From the pictures you can see the sensitivity and playfulness skills my young students gained thanks to your donations of quality and easy to use supplies.\r\n\r\nFor our next project I want my student to learn to grow vegetables indoor, which will be beneficial for both the pollinators they studied last Spring, and them. Most of my students live most live in a food desert, learning how to use real practical science (AG) will help them with a life skills. They will learn to plant seeds, water them and transplant them from a hydroponic medium, to pots, to take home.","fullyFundedDate":1711542055285,"projectUrl":"project/art-of-the-pollinators/8287403/","projectTitle":"Art of the Pollinators","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Daliz","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7793345_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1693868416800","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7793345"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_130854","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":71,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":70,"percentWhite":13,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":3,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 1","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":70.1,"schoolId":130854,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Rochester Academy of Science Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Rochester Academy of Science Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/new-york-state-department-education/rochester-academy-of-science-charter-rocsc/130854"}
