By setting up our cabinet and building vertical storage, we were able to clear up a lot of floor space, resulting in significantly more room for our students. With our subjects being so hands-on, this gives the students the chance to not only sit comfortably, but also move throughout the space comfortably. No one can give their best efforts if they feel cramped and overstimulated, so this storage gives us a clutter-free room and clutter-free minds!\r\n\r\nStudents immediately noticed the extra space in the room, and we were able to reorient the space to support learning better. They also now have more classroom autonomy in lab set-up and take-down since everything has a clear and consistent spot. \r\n\r\nBecause it's the beginning of the school year, our students have a fresh start. Our first unit will introduce a lot of the vocabulary in anatomy before we jump right into the integumentary system. In environmental science, we'll jump into our ecological \r\nfootprint. The students are throughly enjoying the hula hoops, ankle weights, jump ropes, posters and wall art. There has been a guaranteed increase in a positive and encouraging environment, including a gratifying increase in active students who were not so active before. We organized a relay/ring toss race for the PE classes with the hula hoops as the rings. They had an absolute blast with the ring toss and demanded to do the race weeks after the first race. It also was a convertible lesson from 6th grade to 12th grade, which is not often the case. I also have a couple of students who try to wear the ankle weights every chance they get. The rack has also been a big help with organization and cleanliness within the gym. Students are able to learn responsibility and consistency through upholding our standard of cleanliness and organization.
