Even virtually, I noticed students were so engaged with the content. Perhaps it was Bryan Stevenson's writing voice and style. Perhaps it was the fact that they had just witnessed the tragic death of George Floyd. But for something to capture their attention at a time when it was so hard to keep their attention, I knew this book was special. \r\n\r\nAs such, I ordered some for that following school year. With schools having tight(er) budgets, students often end up reading books that are damaged from the general usage from year to year. Providing our seniors with fresh copies of Just Mercy is community in action and we appreciate it. \r\n\r\nIn our class, students read in groups/circles to mirror book clubs. However, for Just Mercy the discussion is so rich that we often read together, pausing to discuss each person's journey. This book is a precursor to their research projects on a social injustice in the world or country.
