This project was to get some materials to get the school year started. We needed a new broom and we use it everyday to keep the classroom clean. We use gloves and wipes everyday so it helped to have some to start the year. I use velcro to create activities and I go through a lot of velcro. \r\n\r\nAt the beginning of the school year, I try to find sensory items that my students like. We use the koosh balls, stretching strings, Play doh and motion bubbler throughout the day. My students also love bubbles so we needed more bubble solution. When the materials first arrived, students reacted with wide-eyed curiosity and playful exploration—some touched the textures, others tracked the light patterns across the room, and several began explaining what they observed, which immediately fostered peer collaboration and a sense of discovery. Our donors, who got a glimpse into our classroom through their support, can look forward to ongoing updates as we deepen the project; next steps involve students designing a short, multisensory presentation that connects the science concept to real-world applications, documenting observations with photos and simple videos, and using the sensory tools to illustrate the process for younger students and families during a sharing session.","fullyFundedDate":1755753581898,"projectUrl":"project/gear-up-for-greatness/9630125/","projectTitle":"Gear Up for Greatness","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Tiger","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8705541_orig.jpg?crop=750,750,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1683221473869","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8705541"},{"teacherId":8705541,"projectId":9152307,"letterContent":"Door chimes in the classroom are helping our students learn by providing clear, consistent cues that organize transitions, reinforce routines, and reduce interruptions, which in turn keeps lessons more focused and accessible for all learners. Many of our donors use technology at home but may not know how it's used in schools, so the chimes act as familiar, low-disruption reminders that connect daily practice to goals like language, math, and executive function skills through customizable sounds, messages, and visuals that can be tailored to individual needs. The most exciting aspect for students is the immediacy and personalization of the feedback—sound or text prompts that briefly signal the next activity, remind them of expectations, or celebrate small successes—often making classwork feel more engaging and manageable. We have seen special students warm to the technology in meaningful ways: those who struggle with transitions become more confident as the routine becomes predictable, students who benefit from multisensory cues respond to both auditory and visual signals, and previously hesitant learners participate more when they can initiate a move to the next task with a simple cue, all of which fosters greater independence and inclusion in the classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1742233443117,"projectUrl":"project/a-simple-ring-enhancing-classroom-aware/9152307/","projectTitle":"A Simple Ring- Enhancing Classroom Awareness with Door Chimes","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Tiger","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8705541_orig.jpg?crop=750,750,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1683221473869","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8705541"},{"teacherId":8705541,"projectId":9085867,"letterContent":"Many donors use technology at home, but in school it becomes a tailored learning tool. iPads and devices support personalized instruction with multimodal content, immediate feedback, and real-time progress tracking. This helps students learn at their own pace, tap into visual or hands-on supports, and stay engaged.\r\n\r\nThe new technology excites our students because learning feels interactive and relevant. They love immersive apps, adjustable digital books, and adaptive platforms that fit their strengths. For our students, the structure and predictability of apps provide a calm path to focus, with visual schedules and clear prompts helping them participate more confidently in small groups or one-on-one tasks.","fullyFundedDate":1740407534381,"projectUrl":"project/data-driven-classrooms/9085867/","projectTitle":"Data-Driven Classrooms","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Tiger","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8705541_orig.jpg?crop=750,750,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1683221473869","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8705541"},{"teacherId":8705541,"projectId":9070680,"letterContent":"The printer plays a crucial role in enhancing student learning in several ways. First, it facilitates hands-on learning by allowing students to create and print their artwork, reports, and projects. This engagement helps them connect more deeply with the material. Additionally, interactive learning is supported through printed materials like worksheets and study guides, which provide more tactile experiences that can reinforce concepts.\r\n\r\nCollaboration among students is also encouraged through the use of the printer. For group work, students can easily print documents to share with their peers, fostering teamwork on various projects. Furthermore, the ability to print drafts for peer review allows for effective feedback and revisions, making it easier for students to improve their work.\r\n\r\nThe printer supports diverse learning styles, catering to visual learners with printed aids such as charts, graphs, and images. For some students, having printed resources makes complex concepts more manageable and less intimidating.\r\n\r\nWhat excites students most about the printer includes features like customization, where they can print in color and on different types of paper, allowing for creative expression. The instant gratification of seeing their work in print provides a sense of accomplishment, encouraging pride in their projects.\r\n\r\nParticularly, artistic students thrive with the printer, as it enables them to bring their ideas to life in a tangible way. Additionally, struggling learners often benefit from printed materials, as these can be easier to handle than digital tools, making it less daunting for them to engage with the content. Overall, the printer not only supports academic learning but also nurtures creativity and collaboration, making it an essential tool in the classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1737544094089,"projectUrl":"project/print-in-progress-empowering-young-mind/9070680/","projectTitle":"Print in Progress: Empowering Young Minds","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Tiger","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8705541_orig.jpg?crop=750,750,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1683221473869","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8705541"},{"teacherId":9307319,"projectId":8724515,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your donations. My students were so excited to see the boxes of new toys. We first worked on functionally playing with the toys and manipulating them together. This is important to learn how to play near peers and not touch each others toys. This also taught them to take turns and tolerate others having the toy they wanted. We were also able to work on colors, numbers, following directives and matching using these toys. They learned hands on which is functional and meaningful for these students. It also keeps them engaged and teaches them skills that can be generalized outside the classroom. The sensory toys served as reinforcers encouraging the student to complete their work and a way to calm down to prevent behaviors.\r\n\r\nI understand there are so many projects out there that you could have donated to. The 12 tablets you helped provide have become essential tools for our students with severe autism, allowing them to communicate, learn, and engage in ways that were previously out of reach. Many of our students are non-verbal, and with specialized apps, these devices now function as speech tools, giving them a voice and fostering confidence in expressing their thoughts and needs.\r\n\r\nThe interactive nature of the tablets has made learning more engaging and personalized. Students can now access tailored activities that match their unique strengths and challenges, ensuring they stay motivated and involved. Touchscreen technology also supports motor skill development, helping students improve coordination through adaptive and repetitive tasks. These devices have also enhanced social learning, with visual aids and interactive apps helping students better understand emotions, routines, and social interactions.\r\n\r\nBecause of your support, our students now have access to technology that bridges gaps in communication, learning, and development. These tablets are more than just devices—they are empowering tools that open doors to independence and a brighter future. One specific project involved using the lamps during a mindfulness session. We created a calming environment where students could engage in deep breathing exercises while the lamps changed colors. This helped them focus and relax, and they shared that the experience made them feel more centered and aware.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the sensory lamps, their reactions were overwhelmingly positive. Their faces lit up with excitement, and they immediately wanted to explore how the colors changed and how they could use them in their activities. This enthusiasm has carried over into our lessons.\r\n\r\nFor our next steps, we plan to incorporate the sensory lamps into our science unit on light and color. Students will conduct experiments to see how different colors affect their mood and concentration. They'll document their observations in a journal, which we will later share with our donors to show the impact of their contributions on our learning. This project not only enhances their understanding of light but also encourages self-reflection and emotional awareness.","fullyFundedDate":1733230428615,"projectUrl":"project/illuminate-learning-the-power-of-sensor/8954074/","projectTitle":"Illuminate Learning: The Power of Sensory Lamps in Classrooms","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Tiger","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8705541_orig.jpg?crop=750,750,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1683221473869","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8705541"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_126503","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":null,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":74,"percentAsian":14,"percentBlack":16,"percentWhite":12,"percentIndigenous":1,"percentLatinx":34,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Not specified","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Record","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"UNCLASSIFIED","ncesMetroType":null},"inStateSupporters":76.0,"schoolId":126503,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Riverview School 277Q @ 322 on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Riverview School 277Q @ 322","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/new-york-city-dept-of-ed/riverview-school-277q-322/126503"}
