The new space and flexible seating is not only inviting, but cozy! They now have an area that is not the typical hard chair and desk, to collaborate and learn. Access to the resources you donated allowed them to develop their skills of designing and conducting experiments.\r\n\r\nThey were given the challenge to create models that could be used to reduce mortality rates among birds due to collisions in windows. They used clay to model birds of different species and sizes. The electronic balance we received allowed my students to measure various masses quickly and accurately. They were also able to use the window mesh and embroidery hoop to create window screens to simulate birds colliding with them rather than colliding into glass windows hence reducing the force of impact.\r\n\r\nI end by saying a big thanks because my students met the NYS Regents Board requirements for Lab minutes and were able to do the Biology Regents Exam June 2025.","fullyFundedDate":1746893305400,"projectUrl":"project/engineers-at-large-designing-solutions/9239148/","projectTitle":"Engineers at Large: Designing Solutions to Save the Birds","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Chung","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8164172_orig.jpg?crop=789,789,x268,y4&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1760242317911","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8164172"},{"teacherId":10057066,"projectId":9427322,"letterContent":"Thanks to the generosity and kindness that you have extended to our sixth grade students at Queens United Middle School, the students now have opportunities that they didn't have before to read books that they want to read, not just books that that are available. With a full set of paddles available, every student now has the opportunity to actively participate in class without having to wait or share equipment. This has led to smoother transitions, increased time on task, and a more inclusive environment where students of all skill levels can learn and play together. The new paddles have also sparked greater interest in the game, encouraging students to try a sport they might not have explored otherwise.\r\n\r\nBeyond just increasing participation, the paddles have allowed for more structured and effective instruction. I've been able to design lessons that focus on technique, strategy, and teamwork, knowing that each student has reliable equipment. The improved access has also made it possible to introduce mini-tournaments and skill-building stations, fostering a sense of healthy competition and personal growth.
