This contribution has directly and positively impacted the school day for all 470 children across grades K-5. Before this project, many of our students struggled with the occasional, but significant, issue of mid-day hunger. Whether a student forgot their lunch, didn't have a sufficient breakfast, or simply needed a small boost of energy during learning, the resulting hunger pangs often led to difficulty focusing, restlessness, and decreased participation. Now, thanks to your support, teachers have readily available, healthy snack options to discreetly offer any child in need. This simple act of providing accessible food has eliminated a major barrier to learning, helping our students maintain the energy and mental clarity required to actively engage in their lessons, from reading groups and math exercises to gym class and music! \r\n\r\nBeyond the immediate nutritional benefits, your donation has fostered a more comfortable and equitable learning environment for every child. For many students, the thought of admitting hunger can be a source of worry or even embarrassment. Your gift has helped us remove much of this anxiety. Teachers can now offer fruit snacks, a granola bar, or crackers without drawing undue attention, preserving the child's dignity and allowing them to participate in all of their school activities. \r\n\r\nWhat you have helped us achieve is having a student body that feels supported, cared for, and secure, and helps them to redirect all their mental energy toward participation and learning instead of worrying about an empty stomach. This project truly embodies how a seemingly small kindness can create a massive, positive shift in a young student's daily school experience, empowering all 470 of our elementary learners to show up to school and their learning without worry. When we quickly realized that more people at our school were on board with this, we saw an even bigger opportunity to reach more students, and that is all possible because of all of YOU! \r\n\r\nOn behalf of all of us at The Children's Lab School, we appreciate your generosity and your kindness more than we could ever say. Many of our students, while familiar with technology at home, haven't had the opportunity to use it in such a dynamic and educational way. These tools have opened up a whole new world of learning for them. The technology is helping our students learn by increasing their independence, as the accessible equipment allows *all* students to independently access and engage with the curriculum. This is especially important for students who may have previously faced barriers to participation. They can now control their own learning experience, which fosters confidence and self-reliance. Creating podcasts and PSAs requires students to collaborate, communicate effectively, and synthesize information, and the microphones and headphones make this process seamless, allowing for clear audio recording and feedback. By creating podcasts explaining ecosystems and PSAs, students are not just passively absorbing information; they are actively processing it, organizing it, and expressing it in their own words. This deepens their understanding of the subject matter in a way that traditional learning methods sometimes can't. Podcast and PSA creation also helps students develop crucial 21st-century skills, including digital literacy, critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity, skills that will benefit them greatly in their future academic and professional pursuits. The most exciting aspect of this new equipment for our students is the ability to share their knowledge and creativity with a wider audience. They love the idea that their podcasts and PSAs can be listened to by others, and they take great pride in their work. The microphones and headphones give their voices a professional quality, which adds to their excitement and motivation. We've seen some students, in particular, really blossom with this new technology. For example, one student who is often hesitant to speak in class has become a natural storyteller through podcasting. The microphone seems to give them a sense of confidence, and they've discovered a real talent for explaining complex concepts in an engaging way. Another student, who previously struggled with written assignments, has found a new outlet for expressing their understanding through the creation of a PSA. They are now actively engaged in the learning process and excited to share what they know. Your generous gift has made a tangible difference in the lives of our students. Thank you for helping us empower them with the tools they need to succeed!","fullyFundedDate":1738873632206,"projectUrl":"project/sound-connections-amplifying-learning-a/8953035/","projectTitle":"Sound Connections: Amplifying Learning and Communication!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Moskovitz","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4498471_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1497555819121","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-moskovitz"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_107332","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":459,"numTeachers":29,"percentFrplEligible":74,"percentAsian":20,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":17,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":56,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"15.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":75.7,"schoolId":107332,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Children's Laboratory School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Children's Laboratory School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/new-york-city-dept-of-ed/ps-343-the-children-s-laboratory-school/107332"}
