With your contribution, our classroom library is filled with high-interest, age-appropriate, and decodable books. Every week, the students go book shopping in our classroom library. One day before shopping, I showed students the new decodable books. Instantly, their eyes widened at the variety of books and engaging pictures. When I showed them that each book focused on a specific phonics skill, they grew more curious and eager. Since I teach a first grade class, it is important for all students to understand which phonics skill they are working on. With these new decodable books, it was easy for me to describe to students which books were best suited for their grade. Therefore, it made it simpler for students to know which books to shop for.\r\n\r\nReading happens everyday in our classroom. Students have individual book boxes and with coaching, they are able to independently pick their own books. Many of these books will be the ones you have donated to our class. During independent reading time, students read from their own book boxes while I meet with students in small groups about how to progress in their phonics goals. Many students have been motivated by the Pete The Cat books. The set  paired with the stuffed toy has made them eager want to read more about the characters. The  Pete The  Cat game has been a wonderful extension activity and  has supported teaching colors, shapes, turn taking and other language goals. The large  Time Timer has made a difference for transitioning between activities and learning about time management for my students. They love to  finish a task before the red section has disappeared. The dry erase boards  have  made lessons more fun an interactive. Many of my students benefit from  visuals to help them  navigate the curriculum. I have been able to make many additional supports with the laminating sheets. My room feels brighter, cleaner, and  more organized this year. The hooks and  magnetic bins keep my materials accessible. Having a large supply of cleaning wipes has  made cleaning  much easier.\r\nWe are truly thankful for your kindness which has had a tremendous positive impact on  the physical space and student participation.
