This year, our students have made tremendous strides in their reading and writing abilities, and reading has become a joyful experience across our community. \r\n\r\nThe whiteboards were a valuable tool during small group writing lessons. Having access to these materials allowed us to tailor instruction to individual student needs, making small group time especially effective. This targeted support helped our learners grow as writers in meaningful ways.\r\n\r\nAs our students became confident readers, the fun bookmarks served as a wonderful incentive to keep them engaged. Students would visit the library, bookmark in hand, eager to read with growing independence. \r\n\r\nI'm excited to continue using these resources in the years ahead to make literacy learning fun, engaging and impactful for kindergarten students.","fullyFundedDate":1736904762041,"projectUrl":"project/kindergartner-literacy-legends/8963117/","projectTitle":"Kindergartner Literacy Legends","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Sili","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9825244_orig.png?crop=453,454,x0,y15&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1732304884803","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-sili"},{"teacherId":9825244,"projectId":8918008,"letterContent":"Our Kindergarten community is incredibly grateful for your generous donations and support in fully funding our Peace Corner. As a teacher who prioritizes social emotional learning, I've seen firsthand how the soft seating, sensory tools, posters, and read alouds have had a profound impact on our students' well being this year. This has been especially important in our ICT setting, where many students rely on the regulation tools the Peace Corner provides to support their emotional development.\r\n\r\nThe Peace Corner has become a true sanctuary for students who may be experiencing big emotions, need a moment to self soothe, or simply want a quiet space to reflect. With tools like visual breathing blocks, timers, and fidget toys, students are able to practice mindfulness in a hands on, self guided way. It's been amazing to watch them gain independence in managing their emotions. Many times, I've noticed students practicing these techniques even outside the Peace Corner, which speaks to how deeply they've internalized these valuable skills.\r\n\r\nI cannot overstate how important it is that our students have access to these resources. So much of their progress is due to the safe space you've helped create. On behalf of our entire team and the Kindergarten community, thank you again. I'm excited to continue using the Peace Corner in our classroom for many years to come.","fullyFundedDate":1737078582681,"projectUrl":"project/kindergartner-peace-corner/8918008/","projectTitle":"Kindergartner Peace Corner","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Sili","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9825244_orig.png?crop=453,454,x0,y15&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1732304884803","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-sili"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_534","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":135,"numTeachers":13,"percentFrplEligible":70,"percentAsian":5,"percentBlack":46,"percentWhite":17,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":25,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"10.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":55.3,"schoolId":534,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about PS 270 Johann DeKalb on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"PS 270 Johann DeKalb","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/new-york-city-dept-of-ed/ps-270-johann-dekalb/534"}
