They are able to practice important skills while enjoying the experience of reading.\r\n\r\nI have especially noticed students who may not always choose to read becoming more interested and confident with their new books. As a school counselor, I see every day how important it is for students to have a safe space where they can talk about their feelings, learn how to handle challenges, and build positive relationships with others. These games have made that process more engaging, comfortable, and, most importantly, fun.\r\n\r\nThe students' reaction when they first saw the new games was priceless. They were immediately excited to see what was inside the boxes and wanted to know when they could play them. There was so much curiosity and enthusiasm! For many of my students, counseling can sometimes feel intimidating because it involves talking about emotions and situations that may be difficult for them. Having these games has changed that dynamic. Instead of feeling like they are sitting down for a serious conversation, students are able to play, laugh, interact, and naturally begin talking about what they are experiencing.\r\n\r\nWe are using the games during individual counseling sessions and small groups to work on skills such as identifying emotions, managing frustration and big feelings, problem-solving, communication, empathy, cooperation, and making positive choices. The games have created opportunities for students to share their thoughts and experiences without feeling pressured to simply \"talk about their feelings.\" I have found that students often open up while they are engaged in an activity, and the games give us a natural starting point for those important conversations.\r\n\r\nI have also loved watching students interact with one another while using the games. They are practicing taking turns, listening to their peers, encouraging one another, handling disappointment, and learning that it is okay when things do not go exactly as planned. These may seem like small moments, but they are incredibly meaningful opportunities for students to practice skills they can carry with them into their classrooms, friendships, and homes.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, I plan to continue incorporating the games into individual counseling, small groups, and SEL lessons throughout the school year. I will use different games depending on the social-emotional needs of each group and use them as conversation starters and hands-on ways to reinforce the skills we are working on. My hope is that the students will continue to see counseling as a place where they can feel comfortable, connected, and supported.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has provided my students with much more than games.
