Before this project, students were primarily learning letter sounds through traditional methods such as teacher modeling, repetition, and group practice. While these approaches are important, they did not always provide students with the immediate, hands-on, and interactive experiences that many children at this age need to stay engaged and build lasting connections between letters and sounds. With the addition of sound buttons, students now have a powerful and exciting tool that allows them to take ownership of their learning in new ways.\r\n\r\nThe sound buttons give students the opportunity to press and hear the sound of a letter as often as they need. This feature provides immediate auditory feedback, which is essential for young learners who are still developing their listening and phonemic awareness skills. For some children, hearing the sound multiple times helps them remember it more clearly, while for others, it reinforces what they have already practiced during whole-group lessons. Because each child learns at their own pace, the sound buttons create space for individualized practice without requiring the teacher to be present for every single repetition. This independence has made students more confident and enthusiastic about exploring letters and sounds on their own.\r\n\r\nIn addition, the sound buttons have transformed literacy into a more engaging and playful experience. Many students naturally enjoy pressing the buttons and listening to the sounds, which turns what might otherwise feel like simple drills into a game-like activity. This sense of play increases motivation, focus, and time spent practicing, which are all crucial in developing strong early literacy foundations. Children often invite their peers to join them in pressing the buttons, which has also created opportunities for collaboration and social learning. As a result, students are not only practicing important skills but also learning to share, take turns, and celebrate each other's progress.\r\n\r\nAnother benefit of this project is the way it has supported diverse learning styles and needs within the classroom. Some students are strong visual learners, while others rely more heavily on auditory input. The sound buttons bridge these learning differences by combining the visual representation of the letter with the auditory reinforcement of its sound. This multimodal learning experience ensures that all students, regardless of their preferred learning style, have a pathway to success. It has been especially helpful for children who may struggle with traditional approaches to phonics instruction, as it gives them a consistent and reliable way to access the sounds they need to learn.\r\n\r\nThe project has also supported the overall classroom routine and structure. During literacy centers or small-group rotations, the sound buttons provide a meaningful and self-directed activity that keeps students engaged while the teacher is working with other groups. This has created smoother transitions, more productive use of time, and a stronger sense of independence among students.\r\n\r\nOverall, the sound button project has greatly enhanced our classroom by making learning letter sounds interactive, fun, and accessible for all children. It has provided students with confidence, independence, and joy in learning, while giving the teacher an effective tool to support literacy growth in meaningful ways.","fullyFundedDate":1756431321106,"projectUrl":"project/sounds-of-letters/9297059/","projectTitle":"Sounds of Letters","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Emigholz","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6806126_orig.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1567867001255","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6806126"},{"teacherId":3451837,"projectId":9213481,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting our project, \"Focused Minds: Tools for Calm and Connection.\" Because of your generosity, our classroom now has a beautiful sensory wall and weighted vests that are already making a powerful difference in our students' daily lives. \r\n\r\nThe sensory wall provides a safe, calming space where students can explore textures, engage in soothing activities, and take needed sensory breaks. It has become a favorite spot in our room—a place where students can self-regulate, reset, and return to learning with a clear mind and calm body.\r\n\r\nThe weighted vests have also had a tremendous impact. These vests offer deep pressure input that helps many of our students feel more grounded and secure throughout the day. Whether transitioning between activities, focusing during lessons, or managing big emotions, students who wear the vests show improved attention, decreased anxiety, and increased confidence in the classroom.\r\n\r\nAs a teacher, it's incredibly rewarding to see students independently use these tools to manage their sensory needs. They feel seen, supported, and empowered—exactly what I hoped for when I created this project.","fullyFundedDate":1746737162698,"projectUrl":"project/focused-minds-tools-for-calm-and-connec/9213481/","projectTitle":"Focused Minds: Tools for Calm and Connection","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Comeau","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp3451837_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1511925326212","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3451837"},{"teacherId":3451837,"projectId":9000599,"letterContent":"The integration of color ink and visuals in our preschool classroom has significantly enhanced our students' learning experiences by making abstract concepts more concrete and engaging. \r\nMy students thrive with the incorporation of these vibrant visuals. With the gross motor area being divided, we are able to share the space with other classes at the same time allowing all students in our building to have more access and time to practice gross motor skills such as jumping, running, and more. \r\nThe dividers had a positive impact on my special ed students because the prior space was too big and overwhelming for them to process.
