Reading the first person accounts of Sampson, George, and Remick gave my kids a vision of what can be achieved when people come together in support and encouragement. Like many of my students, these three doctors came from an underserved community where poverty was an everyday reality. The choice they made as young people to provide each other positive peer pressure forever shaped the trajectory of their lives. My students were shocked and moved to read stories that mirrored their own lives, especially since they knew the stories had a happy ending. I saw students who were reluctant readers all year gleefully dive into this novel, taking risks to read out loud, and feeling safe to ask questions. Because of your donation, I now have these novels in my room to inspire a new group of students.\r\n\r\nThank you so much!","fullyFundedDate":1746787129310,"projectUrl":"project/positive-peer-pressure/9266026/","projectTitle":"Positive Peer Pressure","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Ryan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9455201"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_104527","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":175,"numTeachers":15,"percentFrplEligible":92,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":48,"percentWhite":2,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":44,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":1,"percentMultiracialImputed":1,"gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"11.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":64.4,"schoolId":104527,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Madiba Preparatory Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Madiba Preparatory Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/new-york-city-dept-of-ed/madiba-prep-middle-school/104527"}
