When the box arrived, they wanted to open the boxes and check every bracelet to determine which ones they wanted. They asked if we were giving them away, but I had to remind them of how they could earn the bracelet rewards. \r\n\r\nEvery day, students can earn points for great behavior, attendance, being in uniform, showing our character principles and working as a team. They are working hard to stay focused, complete assigned tasks and treat others as they want to be treated. As they earn positive points, they can turn the points in for the bracelets of their choice. They are in competition to see who can get the most. Students are working to get enough to reach their elbows!\r\n\r\nThank you so much for your donations to support the classroom culture and to get students excited to learn and be the best they can be. During our classroom advisory, we have begun to make a list of additional potential rewards for improved attendance, homework challenges.\r\n\r\nYour charity is a bright light in our East New York classroom. They got to choose the plant they liked best, name it and learn about how to care for it. They are excited to care for the plant over the school year and attempt to leave a legacy for the rising 8th graders. Students are learning responsibility, leadership and concern for a living thing. \r\n\r\nOn a weekly basis, students will care for the plant and replant it at the point the plant grows out of its pot home. Students have asked questions about their plant type to ensure the are caring for it correctly. We will be doing further research on the best climate, lighting and food for the varied species of foliage. \r\n\r\nI watch them check on their plants when they enter the science room. Some students have shown brother's keeper by asking to take responsibility for friend's plants. Recess is a break from academics, and these fast-paced games provide a fun way for students to release stress and energy in a structured, safe environment. These moments offer physical and mental breaks have help students return to class more focused and ready to learn.
