Because of your generosity and belief in our students, our school's HOSA club was able to turn learning into real service for our community in ways that were meaningful, memorable, and impactful.\r\nThanks to your support, we were able to purchase blood pressure machines and pulse oximeters that became the foundation of a student-led health and wellness event. Our HOSA students planned and hosted a \"Slime & Stress Relief\" event for members of our school community. At first glance, making slime might sound simple or just fun—but it was intentionally designed to support both physical and mental health. While participants mixed colors, textures, and glitter, our students guided them through basic health screenings, measuring blood pressure and oxygen saturation levels, and explaining what those numbers mean in everyday life.\r\nFor many students and staff members, this was their first time having their blood pressure or oxygen levels checked outside of a doctor's office. Our HOSA members explained each step with confidence, patience, and care. They reassured nervous participants, celebrated healthy readings, and emphasized the importance of regular health monitoring. The slime activity itself became a powerful stress-relief tool. Laughter, creativity, and conversation filled the room, and it was clear that this event helped people pause, relax, and feel supported during a busy school day. Your donated equipment made all of this possible—it transformed a fun activity into an authentic health education experience.\r\nBeyond this event, your support continued to make a difference during another major community awareness initiative focused on Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA). This is a topic that can feel intimidating, even frightening, but it is one our students felt strongly about addressing. Using the CPR manikins that were donated, our HOSA club organized a hands-on CPR awareness and practice session. Students, staff, and community members were invited to learn the signs of sudden cardiac arrest and practice proper CPR compressions.\r\nWatching our students take the lead during this event was incredibly powerful. They demonstrated compressions, corrected hand placement, counted out loud, and encouraged participants who were hesitant at first. Many attendees shared that they had always wanted to learn CPR but never felt confident enough to try. Practicing on the manikins removed that fear. It turned awareness into action and empowered people with skills that could one day save a life.\r\nWhat made both of these events especially meaningful is that they were student-driven. Your donation did not just provide equipment—it gave students ownership, responsibility, and purpose. They were not simply learning about health careers from a textbook; they were living them. They practiced communication, leadership, empathy, and professionalism. They learned that health care is not only about science, but also about human connection and service.\r\nBecause of you, our students were able to serve their peers, educate their community, and build confidence in themselves as future health professionals. The tools you helped provide will continue to be used in future HOSA events, lessons, and outreach activities, multiplying the impact of your generosity far beyond a single day.\r\nOn behalf of our students, our school, and the many community members who benefited from these experiences, thank you for believing in our vision. Your support helped us create moments of learning, care, and empowerment that will stay with our students for years to come.","fullyFundedDate":1761592873476,"projectUrl":"project/healthy-hearts-community-service/9793909/","projectTitle":"Healthy Hearts Community Service","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Rahman","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7110284"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_1136","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":679,"numTeachers":37,"percentFrplEligible":64,"percentAsian":51,"percentBlack":22,"percentWhite":2,"percentIndigenous":5,"percentLatinx":14,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"18.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":84.6,"schoolId":1136,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Queens Gateway Hlth Sciences on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Queens Gateway Hlth Sciences","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/new-york-city-dept-of-ed/gateway-to-health-sciences-school/1136"}
