To help support them with their reading stamina, we launched an independent reading initiative across all four grades where we would purposefully integrate protected reading time into their English classes. The challenge? We did not have classroom libraries for students to borrow books from. Without a classroom library, our initiative would have never worked because students would have had to bring books from home. \r\n\r\nThanks to your generous support, we have built a classroom library that is the envy of the school. Thank you for our support and for helping boost my students' reading comprehension and stamina.","fullyFundedDate":1758899083421,"projectUrl":"project/lets-expand-our-classroom-library/9747382/","projectTitle":"Let's Expand Our Classroom Library!","teacherDisplayName":"Dr. Van Owen","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp788964_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1515705126915","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/vanowen"},{"teacherId":788964,"projectId":9489729,"letterContent":"When the English department at our school launched its independent reading initiative over the summer, I wasn't sure how we would pull it off since we did not have classroom libraries. Our building is old, and because of that, we don't have book cases in classrooms. With your very generous donation, my 145 students and I spent the last 5 days of the school year making very beautiful t-shirts. It was the culmination of a year of hard work. The students worked extremely well together and wrote inspiring messages on their t-shirts in French. We learned how to say all the supplies in French and every student wrote a thank you in French.\r\nYour donation showed students how valuable it is to really engage in learning. My students now have a physical representation to remind them of all that we learned throughout the year. We took 4 trips to the Metropolitan Museum of Art during the year and now they created their own masterpiece. \r\n\r\nI believe that my students felt supported by your generosity. My school is a Title I school and many of my students live in poverty.
