What might look like a simple classroom resource has become a powerful tool for teaching compassion and cooperation. My students use the water table during center time to work together—taking turns pouring, sharing tools, and helping one another when spills happen. One especially meaningful moment was watching a student pause their own play to help a classmate who was feeling frustrated, gently showing them how to use the cups and saying, \"It's okay, I can help you.\" These moments are exactly the kinds of lessons we hope to nurture.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the water table, their excitement was immediate—wide eyes, big smiles, and lots of curious questions. Beyond the excitement, it quickly became clear how calming and engaging the experience was for them. The water table has created a shared space where students naturally practice patience, communication, and empathy while learning through hands-on exploration.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, we are using the water table as part of lessons on teamwork, cause and effect, and emotional regulation. Students are experimenting with floating and sinking, measuring, and problem-solving together, all while learning how to treat one another with kindness and respect. Your generosity has made a lasting impact on our classroom, and we are so grateful for the compassion you've shown our students—they feel it every day.","fullyFundedDate":1765382828833,"projectUrl":"project/learning-compassion-through-sensory-play/9912987/","projectTitle":"Learning Compassion Through Sensory Play","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Ramdoo","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5132582"},{"teacherId":10350423,"projectId":9895453,"letterContent":"When our sand and water table arrived, the students were instantly drawn to it. They walked into the room, spotted it right away, and their faces lit up. Even some of our quieter students came right over and began exploring with big smiles. For several sensory seekers, simply running their hands through the materials brought calm and focus, creating a warm, engaged energy that filled the whole classroom.\r\n\r\nWe've already been using the table as part of our clothing unit, especially as we explore how we take care of what we wear. Students \"washed\" small fabric pieces in the water bin, used the measuring cups to rinse and pour, and talked through what happens when clothes get wet, how we clean them, and why taking care of them matters. While they played, they were also practicing early STEM skills measuring volumes, comparing amounts, predicting how much water each cup could hold, and observing how materials change from dry to wet. \r\n\r\nAs we continue through our current unit and prepare for the lessons ahead, including our upcoming exploration of exercise and how our bodies work, the sand and water table will remain an important tool. Students will keep building STEM understanding through pouring, lifting, scooping, and observing how water moves, all while strengthening cooperation and language skills. Your generosity didn't just provide a resource it created daily opportunities for discovery, connection, and meaningful hands-on learning.","fullyFundedDate":1763562749651,"projectUrl":"project/hands-on-stem-and-sensory-exploration-fo/9895453/","projectTitle":"Hands-On STEM and Sensory Exploration for Little Learners","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Talavera","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10350423_orig.png?crop=398,398,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1763089210703","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10350423"},{"teacherId":5132582,"projectId":9862426,"letterContent":"This project has made a meaningful difference in our Pre-K classroom by transforming how students engage with books. The felt board and accompanying props allow children to actively participate in stories rather than just listen, turning read-aloud time into a hands-on, interactive experience. Students retell stories, sequence events, and act out characters, which strengthens early literacy skills such as vocabulary, comprehension, and narrative understanding.\r\n\r\nThe materials have been especially effective in capturing the attention of young learners with different learning styles. Visual, tactile, and kinesthetic learners are more focused and motivated, and even reluctant listeners are eager to join in. Overall, the felt board has helped foster a genuine love of books, increased student participation during literacy time, and created a more engaging, inclusive classroom environment where learning feels fun and meaningful.","fullyFundedDate":1762994731090,"projectUrl":"project/storytelling-magic/9862426/","projectTitle":"Storytelling Magic","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Ramdoo","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5132582"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_132636","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":null,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":74,"percentAsian":14,"percentBlack":16,"percentWhite":12,"percentIndigenous":1,"percentLatinx":34,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Not specified","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Record","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"UNCLASSIFIED","ncesMetroType":null},"inStateSupporters":88.2,"schoolId":132636,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about District 29 Pre K Center - Queens Village on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"District 29 Pre K Center - Queens Village","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/new-york-city-dept-of-ed/district-29-pre-k-center-queens-village/132636"}
