For example, one experiment requires students to immerse their hands in water at different temperatures and record changes in their skin and body temperatures. With freshmen, even the neatest 14-year-olds can create a bit of a mess, but your supplies have enabled us to maintain a serious approach to data collection and reflect thoughtfully on our methods for improvement.\r\n\r\nThis year, we're emphasizing annotation and literacy strategies, aiming to make students' thinking visible. Thanks to your donation, students now have multiple color highlighters, erasable pens, and different colored paper to support this goal. The high-quality pencil sharpeners have been a particular hit—they work quickly, have replaceable blades, and automatically shut off when the pencil is sharp, which both students and teachers appreciate.\r\n\r\nThe paper plates you provided have been perfect for creative activities, such as having students design their own cells using various materials and colors to illustrate necessary cell structures.\r\n\r\nWhile I primarily teach ninth-grade Biology (and my freshmen love stamps and stickers), I also teach upper-level health and other electives. All of my students enjoy the motivational stickers, which help create a positive and encouraging classroom environment.\r\n\r\nOverall, your donated items not only support our required lab activities for the state exam, but also help us build community, foster creativity, and enhance student engagement. Thank you again for your generous support of our students and our learning goals.","fullyFundedDate":1758898992442,"projectUrl":"project/lab-supplies-for-new-required-labs/9570297/","projectTitle":"Lab Supplies for New Required Labs","teacherDisplayName":"Dr. Watson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp6178929_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1546577366638","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6178929"},{"teacherId":5984319,"projectId":9667554,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your contribution. Since I started distributing food items ot students in need last year, I have had students approach me to ask for the same food items this year and I was unable to provide them with anything until your generous donation allowed me to buy snacks to fill their bellies.\r\nI was able to buy healthy food items mixed with some student favorites that are sure to please. With the holidays coming up, this might be the only opportunity students have to get some food that they like. Something so small for students in need makes a big impact (especially for students who have so little).\r\nThank you for your kind and generous contribution. By connecting these hexagons, students are able to see the relationships between ideas in a tangible and engaging way. This method not only promotes deeper understanding but also encourages meaningful collaboration and critical thinking.\r\n\r\nYour donation of hexagon-shaped dry erase boards has proven invaluable. Their unique shape makes it easier for students to organize their thoughts, piece together concepts, and visualize connections. The interactive nature of the boards has transformed discussions into moments of true discovery.\r\n\r\nThe erasable highlighters and erasable pens you provided have become classroom favorites. These tools allow students to annotate, revise, and share ideas with confidence, increasing engagement and participation. \r\n\r\nAs students manipulated and linked their hexagons, they not only built content knowledge but also strengthened their understanding of key terms which is directly helping them prepare for our state science exams.\r\n\r\nThank you again for your generosity and support. The geometry curriculum contains a lot of shapes and those types of problems just can't really be done without drawing and labeling a diagram to show what the problem is asking and to assist in developing a problem-solving strategy. Not only were my students able to draw the necessary diagrams, but they were also able to show their thinking.\r\nHaving students work together in a group enriched the type of discussions they were having and allowed them to gain a better understanding of the topics. I am really excited to see my students engage in this type of activity. That was only made possible by having these tools.\r\nThank you so much for making that happen!","fullyFundedDate":1737923845450,"projectUrl":"project/we-arethinking/9062206/","projectTitle":"We areThinking...","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Garber","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp5984319_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1539814817060","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/missgarber"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_98108","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":454,"numTeachers":28,"percentFrplEligible":77,"percentAsian":7,"percentBlack":61,"percentWhite":2,"percentIndigenous":2,"percentLatinx":23,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"16.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":74.6,"schoolId":98108,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about City Polytechnic High School of Engineering Architecture and Technology on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"City Polytechnic High School of Engineering Architecture and Technology","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/new-york-city-dept-of-ed/city-polytechnic-high-school/98108"}
