Since receiving these wonderful resources, the students are using the reading corner more than ever before. The colorful and inviting setup immediately captured their attention, and the organized shelves, reading games, and easily accessible books have helped students become much more independent during literacy time. Instead of needing help to find materials, students are excitedly choosing books, working together on reading games, and spending extra time exploring the corner throughout the day.\r\n\r\nOne of the most meaningful additions has been the individual reading spots and cushions. Now, each student has their own special place to enjoy quiet, private reading time, which has helped students stay focused and comfortable while building their reading stamina. The cushions have also made partner reading much more successful because students can comfortably sit together, share books, practice reading skills, and collaborate during literacy activities. It has created such a calm, cozy, and engaging atmosphere for learning.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the new reading corner, their faces lit up with excitement. They could not wait to sit down, look through the new books, and explore all of the reading activities. One of my favorite moments was watching students independently settle into their reading spots while others gathered together for partner reading and phonics games. The improved organization and welcoming environment have made a tremendous difference in helping students stay focused, engaged, and excited about reading each day.\r\n\r\nThese new resources will continue to support our current literacy lessons and help foster a lifelong love of reading. As we move forward, students will use the reading corner daily for independent reading, partner reading, phonics practice, and small group activities. Thank you for helping create such a warm, welcoming, and literacy-rich environment for our young learners. The organizational and storage materials will help create a more structured, calm, and accessible learning environment for my students beginning in September. Having clearly organized spaces for materials will allow our classroom routines to run more smoothly, which will be especially important in helping students feel confident, supported, and successful as they adjust to new routines.\r\n\r\nWhen students enter the classroom and see the updated setup, they will have welcoming, thoughtfully designed spaces that promote independence and engagement. The birthday celebration items will help us create special moments throughout the year, fostering a strong sense of belonging and helping each student feel valued as an important part of our classroom community.\r\n\r\nThe new books will also help strengthen our classroom library, giving students access to a wider variety of engaging stories and learning opportunities. These additions will support literacy instruction, encourage curiosity, and help build a love of reading through independent exploration and shared story time.\r\n\r\nAs we begin the school year, these resources will support daily routines, strengthen classroom organization, and create engaging learning experiences from day one. The pretend-play materials you helped purchase have brought tremendous excitement to our classroom and sparked a sense of joy and curiosity in my students. They were thrilled to discover the new items and look forward to using them each day.\r\n\r\nOur market stand is currently set up as a hot chocolate stand and will change seasonally throughout the year—transforming into a lemonade stand, apple stand, pumpkin patch, and more. Through this play, students are engaging in meaningful conversations, practicing counting and listening skills, expanding their vocabulary, and connecting new words to real-life items. They are also building important social skills such as taking turns and sharing with their peers.\r\n\r\nWe are truly grateful for your support in helping us create these rich and engaging learning experiences. Because of your support, my students received 15 colorful and durable headphones, and the impact on our classroom environment has been immediate and transformative. Your thoughtful gift has made a significant difference, particularly during our math centers. \r\n\r\nBefore the headphones arrived, our classroom was often a competition of sounds. While the exciting graphics and auditory rewards of online math fluency games were effective, the noise was a constant distraction, making it difficult for students to focus both during independent work and small-group instruction. With your support, students using iPads for interactive math activities are able to focus more deeply without being distracted by surrounding noise. They can fully concentrate on the amazing visuals and detailed instruction in the online math videos, or lock into their fluency games, improving their number sense without being distracted by their peers.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, the headphones have created a more peaceful and productive environment for the other groups, too, whether they are receiving direct instruction from me or working independently at their desks. I can now work intensively with a small group of students without the distraction of the high-energy sounds coming from classroom devices. My students and I can focus entirely on the lesson at hand. Students who were working independently used to constantly get out of their chairs to see why someone's iPad was making a certain noise, but now they are staying focused on their own work. \r\n\r\nThe headphones have truly enhanced learning for all students. My students and I are so grateful for your support and for believing in the power of early education.","fullyFundedDate":1744032832240,"projectUrl":"project/headphones-help-us-focus/9198805/","projectTitle":"Headphones Help Us Focus","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Mooney","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/beleckas"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_21597","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":462,"numTeachers":34,"percentFrplEligible":18,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":6,"percentWhite":68,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":21,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":2,"gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"13.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":81.6,"schoolId":21597,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Lindell Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Lindell Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/long-beach-city-school-district/lindell-school/21597"}
