I have encouraged them to find a calming corner in their own homes and to fill it with similar items. The puzzles are the most popular item and they love to work on one after their independent work. The students were so excited to be able to use art materials we usually have very limited access to, and to create self-directed art pieces that challenged & delighted them.\r\nIn our classroom we focus on building technical & conceptual art skills, so this project has been a fun departure in which they were able to just explore what the medium could do, and how to use it more broadly. All students were completely engaged and had a lot of fun in the process.\r\nI feel that this project helped students loosen up a bit in their artmaking, and to see it as a tool to help them manage their emotional health in a truly healthy way. They noticed right away when I put the new posters on the wall of our Constitution and events in early American history. This enhances the content in a simple, visual way, and I find they are referencing them often. \r\nA variety of the materials supplied were aimed at mental, social and emotional well being. The stress balls and sensory toys are calming. Not a day goes by they don't use them, and of course were very curious as to the new items in our room! The motivational post it notes and stickers are fun for the students and brings a smile to their faces. The students love the new rug and table to store our new materials too. We have an array of supplies such as coloring books/markers/ reading guides, chair bands, table baskets and paper organizers all for the students needs. \r\nThank you for this amazing opportunity to bring content to life, a sense of calm with the sensory items and supplies all aimed at creating a welcoming and safe learning environment.
