Brick Masters has been bringing joy to all of the students in our building! It provides them a safe, calm space in the mornings before going to class where they can express their creativity and collaborate with their classmates. We have seen students come out of their shell when working on a set during Brick Masters. \r\n\r\nWhen the sets were coming in the mail, the students were giddy with each new package that arrived!! They even tried to claim each set as the one they would build. Originally we were going to open every set at once and let them build, but we ended up starting slow. We opened 3 sets and let them get to work. It has been so much fun to see the different groups of students who work together to continue building the sets. So far, they have completed a space dog, multiple vehicles, and have made significant progress on Stitch and a Fortnite Llama. \r\n\r\nUp next, we plan on opening one of the bigger sets we were able to order with your donations! The students have been so engaged with the Legos as soon as they walk in the room. It's been as much fun to watch their progress as its been for the kids to work on them. We can't thank you enough!!!","fullyFundedDate":1764680576902,"projectUrl":"project/warren-street-brick-masters/9857087/","projectTitle":"Warren Street Brick Masters","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. VanAernam","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10329203"},{"teacherId":10323474,"projectId":9847261,"letterContent":"What a generous contribution to our classroom kitchen! The students were amazed when they saw the Ninja Foodie cooker, the burners, cookware, and the accessories to start making Mac & Cheese and other food in our learning space! I waited to write this impact letter, because I wanted to include additional information about how we are continuing to use the products in other ways. \r\n\r\nI teach 5 classrooms in 4th grade and entered them into the Macaroni and Cheese challenge through NYS Ag in the Classroom. Students took on this challenge with determination and inclusivity. Students looked at recipes from around the world and what elements were included in each combination. All students had a voice and they tried to honor each person's opinion as to the contents of their creation. Items were voted on and then decisions were made as to what was included. When it came to dairy products, LOCAL and our hometown were a priority for their secret combinations. Students have been learning about alliteration and poetry, so they applied that to this project as well. One class, named their creation Mozzarella Monster Mac n' Cheese and wrote a poem/rap to use for their marketing. Another team, was excited to create a recipe from things that they love - macaroni and cheese and Blue Heat Takis! That sounded like a crazy idea, but they combined lots of local ingredients, used fresh basil, and topped it with their favorite snack. Some students (and staff) were timid to try the spicy snack-topped creation, but they convinced others to try it because the Fage Greek Yogurt (made right here in town) was sure to calm the spice and they would be surprised at how wonderful it would taste! \r\n\r\nWhat started out as a \"simple\" cooking challenge, turned out to be a memorable, rewarding, and impactful experience for the students and for me. By the end of this challenge, students were all sitting together around the table (no one excluded). They were talking about the food - the presentation, what it looks like, tastes like, and makes them feel like. During the making of the digital portion of this challenge, I stepped back and had other students coach and show them some of the tricks they had learned while making their own presentations. It was wonderful to watch them ask each other and help one another. These students showed excitement and teamwork through each step of the way! Pilot Light Food Education standards were used to help instruct and for them to reflect back on as they worked on this Macaroni and Cheese Challenge. Food was making those connections to each classmate as well as to our local farmers (origins and sources). Students also reflected on making decisions for themselves and that their food behaviors were influenced by external and internal factors. The ironic take-away was that though the macaroni and cheese was the initial reason, it became an incredible learning experience for all!\r\n\r\nOur most recent use of the products you donated was to make vegetable frittatas. We harvested greens from our Gardyn Tower, sautéed them, added them to farm fresh eggs, and lots NY cheddar. Students are trying foods that they most likely do not have access to or would not try otherwise - and for that I am sincerely grateful and humbled to be able to provide these experiences to my students all because of your donation.","fullyFundedDate":1763498212089,"projectUrl":"project/creating-a-classroom-mac-cheese-meal-i/9847261/","projectTitle":"Creating a Classroom Mac & Cheese Meal in Minutes","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Roehl","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10323474_orig.jpg?crop=940,940,x1700,y1240&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1760922326897","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10323474"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_21349","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":295,"numTeachers":23,"percentFrplEligible":57,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":87,"percentIndigenous":1,"percentLatinx":8,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"2 - 4","studentTeacherRatio":"12.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":55.4,"schoolId":21349,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Warren Street Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Warren Street Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/greater-johnstown-school-district/warren-street-elementary-school/21349"}
