After our October field trip to the Greenburgh Nature Center—where we explored habitats, food chains, and celebrated National Wildlife Day (although it was in September), students had so many questions and observations they were eager to organize. The new materials allowed us to transform that excitement into a hands-on project. Using foldables, graphic organizers, and illustrated word cards, students built lap books that captured key ecosystem vocabulary and concepts they encountered on the trip.\r\n\r\nThe moment the materials arrived, the classroom buzzed with energy. Many students immediately began recalling animals they had seen, excitedly flipping through the new resources to match terms like \"producer,\" \"decomposer,\" and \"adaptation\" with their real-life experiences. One student proudly pointed to her lap book page on habitats and said, \"This is just like the forest trail where we saw the owl!\" Moments like this showed how powerful it is when learning becomes personal and interactive.\r\n\r\nWith their lap books now complete, students are using them as reference tools for our ongoing unit on environmental relationships. Our next step is a collaborative research project where students will apply their new vocabulary to create mini ecosystem models and short presentations. Your support not only enriched a single lesson—it sparked curiosity that continues to grow each day. Thank you for giving my students the opportunity to learn, create, and explore science more deeply.","fullyFundedDate":1758202807936,"projectUrl":"project/various-projects-for-the-holidays/9610243/","projectTitle":"Various Projects for the Holidays!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Hood","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10181837"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_23243","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":392,"numTeachers":33,"percentFrplEligible":74,"percentAsian":6,"percentBlack":23,"percentWhite":7,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":59,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"2 - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"11.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":79.8,"schoolId":23243,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Alice E Grady Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Alice E Grady Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/elmsford-union-free-school-district/alice-e-grady-elementary-school/23243"}
