Many of them come to school without enough to eat, and having extra snacks available made a huge difference in their ability to focus and stay engaged. I was able to provide a snack either before or after lunch, depending on their needs, which helped them stay on track and do their best work throughout the day. Even something as simple as crackers or granola bars gave them the energy boost they needed to succeed.\r\n\r\nThe snacks also became a source of motivation and encouragement. Students were genuinely excited to know that if they stayed focused and completed their work, a treat would be waiting for them. It helped build a positive classroom environment where effort and participation were consistently rewarded. This simple system made them feel seen and appreciated, and it boosted their confidence in their ability to learn.\r\n\r\nOne of the most impactful moments came when I was able to send food home with a student who I knew was struggling with food insecurity. Being able to provide even a small bag of snacks made a big difference for this child and their family. It gave me peace of mind knowing that they had something to eat over the weekend. These donations not only helped meet basic needs but also reminded my students that they are cared for and supported.\r\n\r\nThank you so much.","fullyFundedDate":1701187286268,"projectUrl":"project/students-work-best-when-they-arent-hung/7591694/","projectTitle":"Students Work Best When They Aren't Hungry!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Holderbaum","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6657177_orig.png?crop=543,543,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1686334312831","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6657177"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_23644","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":636,"numTeachers":64,"percentFrplEligible":84,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":20,"percentWhite":40,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":28,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"9.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":75.8,"schoolId":23644,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about East Irondequoit Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"East Irondequoit Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/east-irondequoit-central-school-district/east-irondequoit-middle-school/23644"}
