Reading looks different for every student who walks through my door, and my mission each day is to meet them exactly where they are and give them what they need to feel successful. These decodable readers have given me another wonderful tool to do just that.\r\n\r\nThe books allow my students to practice the skills they are working on, including short and long vowels, blends, digraphs, and more complex vowel patterns, in actual connected text. Instead of practicing a skill only on a worksheet or with a list of words, they get to use it while reading a real book. I love watching that moment when a student realizes, \"I can read this!\" That little boost of confidence can mean everything to a developing reader.\r\n\r\nSome of my favorite moments have been watching students choose a book that feels manageable, tuck it into their book pouch, and know that it is theirs to practice and enjoy. For some of my students, these books also provide meaningful opportunities to continue reading at home. My goal will always be to help my Little Dragons grow into confident, capable readers who believe in themselves.
