Because of you, my 2nd grade students received subscriptions to Scholastic News, Science Spin, and StoryWorks 2. These resources have become an engaging and essential part of my students' learning experience.\r\n\r\nEach week, students eagerly open a new issue. We've explored topics like plant life cycles, land forms, U.S. symbols, inventions and engineering, and interesting animal adaptations. One of the most memorable articles taught students how animals help spread seeds—including a lesson on dung beetles and seed dispersal that had the class completely hooked! It was the perfect mix of science, surprise, and laughter—and most importantly, it made the learning stick.\r\n\r\nWe use these resources during our ELA block to integrate science and social studies. The articles allow us to build content knowledge while strengthening key reading skills like building vocabulary, identifying main ideas, making inferences, and using text evidence. StoryWorks also provides fiction, poetry, and paired texts that spark rich discussions and meaningful writing opportunities.\r\n\r\nHaving paper copies of these magazines makes a big difference. Students can highlight, annotate, and revisit texts as needed. Many of them take their issues home to read again or share with their families. For students who don't have access to many books or print materials at home, this is especially meaningful.\r\n\r\nThank you again for bringing these valuable resources into our classroom. Your generosity has helped spark curiosity and deepen learning within my young readers every day.","fullyFundedDate":1726170889446,"projectUrl":"project/read-to-succeed-giving-students-access/8748388/","projectTitle":"Read to Succeed: Giving Students Access to Printed Scholastic Articles","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Pallus","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/cpallus"},{"teacherId":9784643,"projectId":8841697,"letterContent":"I can't thank you enough for your generous contribution to our Donors Choose project. The STEAM games you helped provide have already made a huge difference in our classroom! My students were absolutely thrilled when they first saw the materials. Their faces lit up with excitement as we unpacked the games, and they immediately dove in to explore the new tools. It was incredible to see them working together to solve challenges, sharing ideas, and helping each other while engaging in critical thinking and creativity. These hands-on games have been especially valuable during indoor recess and choice time, turning what would have been downtime into enriching learning opportunities.\r\n\r\nCurrently, we are using the games to complement a classroom project where students are learning about shapes, patterns, and basic engineering concepts. They're using the STEAM games to design and build structures, fostering both their problem-solving skills and their teamwork abilities. The next step is for each student to present their creations to the class, explaining the thought process behind their designs. This project has been a wonderful way to bring their learning to life, and the games continue to support their growth in such meaningful ways.
