We have already put the new materials to work in two major design thinking projects this semester. In our Lord of the Flies Conch Redesign Lab, students used the supplies to prototype new symbolic versions of the conch that better communicate authority, democracy, and conflict on the island. More recently, in our Fahrenheit 451 App Wireframing Project, students used the materials to sketch and build early stage wireframes for apps that could exist in Bradbury's dystopian world, and the world we currently live in, too. Their challenge was to analyze a social issue in the novel and real-world and design an app that either reflects that problem or attempts to solve it, turning literary themes into real UX decisions.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, the room lit up with real curiosity. They immediately began sorting markers, pulling out Post its, and spreading large sheets across the tables to map out their early designs. Several students said it felt like a design studio inside an English class, which is exactly the creative energy these resources were meant to bring to our work.\r\n\r\nNext steps include preparing for larger, more formal presentations where students will defend their design choices and connect them directly to key moments and symbols from the novels. After that, we will transition into new design thinking projects in the spring, where students will continue to merge literary analysis with innovation and prototype driven learning. Thank you again for giving our students the chance to think, create, and explore in meaningful and future ready ways.","fullyFundedDate":1760990643596,"projectUrl":"project/reimagining-english-language-arts-foste/9821070/","projectTitle":"Reimagining English Language Arts: Fostering A Design Thinking Innovation Lab","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Bertrand","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10309733"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_23025","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1345,"numTeachers":102,"percentFrplEligible":22,"percentAsian":14,"percentBlack":6,"percentWhite":50,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":25,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"13.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":88.2,"schoolId":23025,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Clarkstown South High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Clarkstown South High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/clarkstown-central-school-district/clarkstown-south-high-school/23025"}
