Thanks to the expansion of our classroom library, most scholars have already finished at least three books this school year—an exciting milestone this early on. They proudly track their completed books on a reading chart displayed at the back of our classroom, and it has created a wonderful sense of motivation and community around reading. Some mornings, I'm even greeted with the question, \"Can we spend the day reading the graphic novels?\" Their enthusiasm is real and contagious.\r\n\r\nThe new texts have allowed us to introduce important reading skills in meaningful ways. As students dive into their independent books, I circulate and ask them to identify the type of conflict they're seeing—whether it's character vs. character, character vs. self, character vs. nature, or character vs. society. This simple check-in helps them apply what we're learning during whole-group lessons to the books they're choosing on their own, reinforcing deeper thinking and comprehension. Many of our scholars who previously struggled to stay engaged are now especially excited about reading, particularly those who've discovered new favorite genres like graphic novels or adventure series.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping make this joy possible. Your support has transformed not just our library, but the way our scholars see themselves as readers.","fullyFundedDate":1754323121290,"projectUrl":"project/hooked-on-books-ya-graphic-novels-for/9514873/","projectTitle":"Hooked on Books: YA & Graphic Novels for Independent Readers","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Azizi","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8931762_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753840734097","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8931762"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_95466","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":null,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":89,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":35,"percentWhite":12,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":45,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"US Census Data for the surrounding geographic area","gradesServed":"Not specified","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"Census ZCTA","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"UNCLASSIFIED","ncesMetroType":null},"inStateSupporters":77.0,"schoolId":95466,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Harlem Children's Zone - Promise Academy II Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Harlem Children's Zone - Promise Academy II Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/charter-school-district/promise-academy-middle-school/95466"}
