Having a soft, comfortable spot to sit while we are having our morning meeting and while we are in front of the smartboard makes it easier for my students to focus and maintain their personal space. \r\n\r\n My students were so surprised when I opened the boxes, and they were super excited to begin using the cushions! We now have three different types: square cushions, stars, and circle shaped cushions. They love to switch it up and choose different shapes on different days!\r\n\r\n The use of these cushions has helped my students increase their listening stamina and has helped them understand physical boundaries when sitting on the floor. Because of you, my first-grade students now have so many more tools to help them with their emotional regulation skills! We created a \"Calm Corner\" and included the materials provided by your donation. Whenever needed, students can take a brief 3-minute break at the Calm Corner. With the materials provided by your donation, students now have the tools to be able to recognize their emotions, sort through them, use tools to calm their emotions, and get back to work! The students have also been tracking their emotions by coloring in a corresponding chart. \r\n With this new Calm Corner in place, I am noticing that students are becoming much more aware of when they need a break to help regulate their emotions and re-focus themselves. We have been discussing what it feels like when we are in different emotional \"zones\" and what tools we can use to help when we are in each zone. We are even checking in each morning to see what zone we are in when we enter the classroom, and if need be, we can use the tools in the Calm Corner to get us in the right mindset for a productive and positive day!\r\n My students are so thrilled with this new initiative! They love all the new materials and have been using the Calm Corner responsibly. Without your help, none of this would have been possible. We are all truly grateful for your donation and know that you have impacted the lives of 19 students (and 2 teachers) for the better!
