Because of you, my students were able to explore clay in a hands-on, meaningful way that many of them had never experienced before. From the moment the materials arrived, the excitement was contagious—students were eager to touch the clay, ask questions, and begin shaping their ideas. Using these resources, students learned essential ceramic techniques such as rolling, scoring, and joining while creating their own sculptural forms. Watching their ideas come to life in three dimensions was incredibly rewarding for both them and me.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the clay, there were gasps, smiles, and immediate brainstorming. Many students expressed how special it felt to work with a material they usually only see in professional art studios. For some, it was their first time feeling successful in art, as clay allowed them to problem-solve, revise, and build confidence through trial and error. Students took pride in their work, supported one another, and were deeply engaged throughout the entire process. The tactile nature of clay helped students slow down, focus, and express themselves in ways that drawing or painting alone cannot.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, students will continue refining their clay projects by adding details, textures, and personal meaning to their sculptures. They will reflect on their creative choices, discuss how artists use form and texture to tell stories, and make connections between their work and real-world art. Your generosity has provided my students with an enriching artistic experience that fosters creativity, perseverance, and self-expression. Thank you for believing in my students and helping make our art classroom a place where imagination can truly take shape.","fullyFundedDate":1758819455678,"projectUrl":"project/shaping-creativity-with-clay/9454953/","projectTitle":"Shaping Creativity with Clay","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Brooks","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9578358_orig.jpg?crop=1242,1242,x0,y335&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1719504060888","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9578358"},{"teacherId":7595186,"projectId":8827755,"letterContent":"We have been having fun in art class! All thanks to your donations, we have been able to try out and use new, various mediums in class. Students love and ask for \"Free Draw Fridays\" all the time in their sketchbooks. With a new class pack of markers, students love to have days where they are free to draw as they wish in their sketchbooks with no objectives. It has been a way for students to apply skills they learned in class into low steak drawings, or students have even created their own competitions in which they come up with prompts to draw for anyone who wants to be involved. It is fun to watch how they use that self-directed time. \r\nI am excited to begin a painting unit when we come back from break. We will be studying the artist Charles Burchfield, a Western New York landscape painter, and apply our own emotions to our landscapes for a Social emotional learning twist. Having these materials has been such a relief to know that I am able to carry out more lessons for students to get excited about. We are learning to care for the materials and the art room as all artists should. Again thank you so much for your generosity.
