During our recent group projects, the bean bags became the perfect seating for brainstorming sessions. Students gathered in small teams to collaborate, and the relaxed atmosphere helped foster creative thinking. One particular moment that stands out was when we were working on a science project where students had to design an eco-friendly city. The bean bags allowed them to think outside the box as they sat in clusters, bouncing ideas off one another while sketching their designs on large poster boards. The comfort of the bean bags made them more at ease, which led to a more productive and interactive session.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the bean bags, their reactions were full of excitement and joy. It was as if a whole new world of possibilities opened up in the classroom! Some students immediately claimed their favorite spots, while others couldn't stop smiling, eager to sit down and get to work. It was heartwarming to see how these simple but thoughtful donations brought so much enthusiasm and comfort to my students. As for the next steps, we are continuing with the eco-city project, where students will now begin to create digital presentations of their designs. The bean bags have provided a space for students to not only relax but also dive deeper into the creative aspects of this lesson, and I can't wait to see the final projects come to life!","fullyFundedDate":1737134127503,"projectUrl":"project/flexible-seating-for-special-education-s/9062284/","projectTitle":"Flexible Seating for Special Education Students","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Candelaria","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9374011_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1730290100572","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9374011"},{"teacherId":9781411,"projectId":8832767,"letterContent":"I am thrilled to share the incredible impact your generosity has had on my students. Thanks to your support, our classroom has come alive with new opportunities for learning, self-expression, and growth.\r\n\r\nTwo of my students with visual impairments have been using the textured switches to turn an MP3 player on and off to play their favorite songs. This activity has been a game-changer for them, as it is helping them learn the concept of cause and effect while introducing them to the skill of using a switch to control a device. Watching their faces light up as they touch and feel the textured switches, realizing they can start their favorite music independently, is truly priceless.\r\n\r\nAnother student has been using the speech buttons to express basic needs and preferences, such as saying \"yes,\" \"no,\" and \"I need help.\" The colorful design of the buttons makes it easier for her to visually identify and select the correct button. She has taken an enthusiastic liking to pressing the buttons, and it's heartwarming to see her growing confidence in using them to answer questions or communicate her wants. While she is still learning to use the \"I need help\" button consistently, this progress represents a major step forward in her journey toward effective communication.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first encountered these materials, their reactions were filled with joy and curiosity. My visually impaired students eagerly explored the textured surfaces of their switches, and their excitement was palpable as they discovered they could control their music. It was a moment of empowerment and discovery that will stay with me for a long time.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we have exciting plans to continue building on these successes. The students with visual impairments will practice starting and stopping their music using the textured switches, with the goal of achieving consistent responses. Once they master this, we will introduce new ways to use switches or buttons to express simple ideas. Similarly, the student with the speech buttons will work on consistently using them to say \"yes\" and \"no\" while progressing toward independently asking for help when needed.\r\n\r\nYour contribution has opened up a world of possibilities for my students, providing them with tools that foster independence, communication, and self-esteem. On behalf of my students and myself, thank you for believing in our classroom and helping us create a brighter future.","fullyFundedDate":1729739422697,"projectUrl":"project/please-help-these-disabled-high-school-s/8832767/","projectTitle":"Please Help These Disabled High School Students Communicate!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Maria","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9781411"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_82885","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1035,"numTeachers":48,"percentFrplEligible":84,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":17,"percentIndigenous":2,"percentLatinx":77,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"21.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":67.4,"schoolId":82885,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Belen High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Belen High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-mexico/belen-con-school-district/belen-high-school/82885"}
