We read 3 days a week and have \"book club\" one day a week. Finally, each student responds to a writing prompt each week.\r\nBook Club is a format where a student runs the class discussion on the previous weeks reading. Each student is graded on participation. The leader from the week is given a circle with all students names on it and a list of discussion questions. The leader decides what questions to ask and using the circle, draws lines between the names as students talk. It provides students with a visual reference of how much and how many times they participated. While they're talking, I pass out a snack to each child. They love this part of the week and are participating with enthusiasm. \r\nAfter book club is over, I offer the writing prompt for the week. I purchased a curriculum about the book and am using their writing prompts. One example, is to describe a difficult day. Students are to use a 5 paragraph format. I expected to get responses about little siblings that ruined a day or about a goldfish that died. These children bared their souls. Thank you for supporting my students learning.","fullyFundedDate":1764696856345,"projectUrl":"project/the-book-thief-deep-dive-into-the-impor/9922882/","projectTitle":"The Book Thief: Deep Dive Into The Importance Of Literature","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Beggio","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp3826924_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1486676061249","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/b-beggio"},{"teacherId":1267004,"projectId":9497154,"letterContent":"Thank you for your generous donation where we were able to purchase usb chargeable ball pumps, soccer balls, volley balls and basketballs and a storage rack for Fitness Fridays during health class. \r\n The students were excited to get new balls and thrilled when they opened the boxes to use outside for health class. I also allow students to check them out to use during their lunchtime. Unfortunately, our outside conditions are rough on balls: dirt lot, concrete under a shade structure, and goat heads that puncture balls, so they get a lot of use but also need to be replaced regularly. \r\n We used the resources during our fitness unit, and on Fridays for the rest of the year, it is an incentive for students to submit all the work for the week before we go outside on Fridays for some outside free play. In health, we talk about how this time outside and playing soccer, shooting baskets, or hitting a volley ball helps with emotional, physical, academic and social health and why it is important to make time to take a physical break each day.
