With the new mats, blocks, and calming resources, we've been able to create a peaceful and welcoming environment where students can fully engage in yoga, social-emotional learning, and mindful movement. During our recent Wellness Wednesday, students participated in a guided yoga session that focused on breathing and gentle stretching. One student shared, \"I thought the yoga class was really nice and something that I would like to participate in more often. I liked the environment you created and the peacefulness of the room. It was really nice to be able to get my body up and moving... My body felt so good afterwards.\" Another student reflected, \"It allowed me to take a break from the work I was worried about and just focus on breathing... After we finished and I went home, I felt so relaxed, even my parents could notice the difference.\" Their reactions when they first saw the materials were filled with excitement and curiosity—they immediately noticed how the mats and props made the space feel special and inviting. These resources have not only supported physical wellness but also created moments of calm and accomplishment, helping students feel more grounded and productive. The impact has been so positive that students are requesting yoga sessions every week because of how much better they feel afterward.","fullyFundedDate":1754545768936,"projectUrl":"project/wellness-warriors-yoga-social-emotiona/9451683/","projectTitle":"Wellness Warriors- Yoga, Social Emotional Learning and Mindful Movement Supplies","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Atencio","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9804975_orig.jpg?crop=2667,2667,x0,y168&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1729606657518","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9804975"},{"teacherId":9804975,"projectId":8882135,"letterContent":"Participating in the Breathe For Change program has been a deeply transformative experience, both personally and professionally. The resources and practices provided are having a powerful impact on my approach as a school counselor. They are helping me cultivate a more positive, supportive, and growth-oriented mindset—not only within myself, but also within the school environments I serve.\r\n\r\nThrough the integration of social emotional learning (SEL), mindfulness, and breathwork, I am learning to create spaces that foster emotional safety, resilience, and healing. These tools have enhanced the way I support my students, especially those navigating personal challenges, trauma, or stress. I have begun incorporating brief mindfulness exercises and breathing techniques into individual counseling sessions, small groups, and classroom guidance lessons. Even small moments of pause and presence are making a noticeable difference in how students regulate emotions, stay grounded, and engage more fully in their learning.\r\n\r\nWhat excites me most is that this work is just beginning. Over the next two months, I will embark on the yoga portion of the training, which will further enrich the practices I can offer. I see this as a powerful extension of my counseling services—offering physical, emotional, and mental outlets that help students reconnect with themselves and develop lifelong self-care strategies.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, I am committed to bringing these practices not only to my students, but also to my colleagues, families, and the broader school community. We are all navigating storms in our lives, and I believe that having accessible, trauma-informed wellness tools—rooted in breath, movement, and reflection—can help us all find greater peace and presence. The Breathe For Change program is equipping me to be a more mindful, compassionate leader and advocate for holistic well-being in education.","fullyFundedDate":1732249879584,"projectUrl":"project/serving-the-students-of-the-navajo-natio/8882135/","projectTitle":"Serving the Students of the Navajo Nation","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Atencio","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9804975_orig.jpg?crop=2667,2667,x0,y168&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1729606657518","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9804975"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_48206","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":158,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":0,"percentIndigenous":100,"percentLatinx":0,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":25.0,"schoolId":48206,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Navajo Preparatory School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Navajo Preparatory School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-mexico/-bureau-of-indian-affairs-/navajo-prep-school/48206"}
