As seen in one of the pictures, the students look forward to and are excited about adding the tokens to the jar. The visual representation of filling their buckets is such a powerful moment.\r\n\r\nIn addition to the kindness jars, we received our conversation cubes. The cubes are excellent ice breakers and literal conversation starters. They have helped the students feel closer and more connected to each other. Much like the Kindness Jars, the conversation cubes have helped make our students feel as if our classrooms are safe spaces to be express themselves, safe spaces to make mistakes, and safe spaces to learn.","fullyFundedDate":1753978637610,"projectUrl":"project/kindness-jars-create-bucket-fillers/9435842/","projectTitle":"Kindness Jars Create Bucket Fillers!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Robbins","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5020379_orig.jpg?crop=716,716,x281,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1669644021611","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/robbinswes"},{"teacherId":5020379,"projectId":9037230,"letterContent":"The number of students who have multiple ACEs--Adverse Childhood Experiences--is at its highest. Research shows that adults who have multiple ACEs are more susceptible to health concerns & struggle more to overcome obstacles throughout their lives. While teachers can help students avoid certain ACEs, it is more reasonable to expect educators--teachers and support staff--to teach students how to cope with big feelings resulting from trauma and process new information when stressed anxious. \r\n\r\nAs the counselor, I am always here for my students. But, I am one person & we have 400 students. To ensure that all students feel supported, my teachers need to be trauma-informed. My teachers need to know how to recognize the signs that a student is dealing with trauma & how to effectively provide the needed support. This book--\"Teacher's Guide to Trauma: 20 Things Kids with Trauma Wish their Teacher Knew\"--provides invaluable insight into trauma, insight needed to respond effectively and appropriately to support those negatively impacted by trauma.\r\n\r\nPlease know that I--along with the rest of my teaching staff are extremely grateful. These books provide carefully laid out and simple to use worksheets which I have already infused into my character education lessons. These books make it a lot easier to address the five core components of social and emotional learning. \r\n\r\nOne thing I have taught my students is that 'Empathy' (social awareness) is my second favorite word (chocolate is number one). Empathy is so important because, by having empathy for others, we can identify friends and/or classmates who are feeling sad or mad or frustrated. By having empathy, we are able to prevent a problem from happening or students can use empathy to resolve conflicts in school. Empathy is such an important focus for our students and the very first set of activities in these books focused on having empathy for those around us. \r\n\r\nIf these books allow our students to become more empathetic or more compassionate, then the positive impact of these books will be immeasurable.","fullyFundedDate":1733249847991,"projectUrl":"project/180-days-of-social-emotional-learning/8906082/","projectTitle":"180 Days of Social Emotional Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Robbins","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5020379_orig.jpg?crop=716,716,x281,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1669644021611","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/robbinswes"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_82313","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":343,"numTeachers":22,"percentFrplEligible":62,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":43,"percentWhite":5,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":46,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"1 - 4","studentTeacherRatio":"15.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":88.4,"schoolId":82313,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Washington Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Washington Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-jersey/roselle-public-schools/washington-elementary-school/82313"}
