The boxes were brought in and my students were so eager to open them. They made a \"Rock, paper, scissors\" competition to see who would get to open the packages. \r\nWe worked together to sort the packages and prepare the fabrics for the project. Since I had already explained to the students this empowering project, they already had their positive messages, designs and drawings ready to transfer. While I cut the fabric, students worked on last minute details until they could begin the transfer. \r\nThey used the fabric markers to trace and color in their designs directly onto the white fabric. After each class we took a gallery walk so everyone could see what their friends were doing, share ideas and give positive, constructive feedback.\r\nOnce each student finished their designs, I set up stations around the room. One with glue guns and sticks, one with patterned fabric and the other, the stuffing. \r\nStudents glued 3 edges of their design fabric to the back and left one side open to stuff. After they stuffed their pillows, they glued the edges and used needle and thread to secure he corners. \r\nMy students were so excited to just hold their pillows. A few shared that their pillows made them feel very calm. \r\nWe now started the new year and the new 4th graders are already looking forward to making their very own pillows. They had the chance to see what the former classes made and a few students already told me their positive messages. I hope they keep spreading the kindness. \r\nThe most important thing my students still talk about is how amazed they are that you donated the supplies to them. Yesterday a girl came into my class and asked me, probably for the 6th time this year, \"A you sure strangers gave us these supplies and you didn't just buy them?\". I reminded her they were donated. She told me she hopes to be able to donate supplies one day.\r\nThank you for your donations and more importantly, the role model you set for my students in being global citizens.\r\nMay you always be on the giving side and continue to go from strength to strength.","fullyFundedDate":1742823940906,"projectUrl":"project/empowering-pillows/9169099/","projectTitle":"Empowering Pillows","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Septimus","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1011198_orig.jpg?crop=512,512,x36,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1746495628191","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-septimus"},{"teacherId":8052162,"projectId":9219441,"letterContent":"I want to extend my sincere gratitude for your generous donation of tissues and paper towels to our classroom. These supplies have enabled us to explore new artistic techniques, work on hands-on learning activities, and express individual creativity in ways that were previously limited by lack of resources. The students enjoy the various toys and manipulatives that were placed in centers during choice time and when they want to engage in reinforcing activities the educational manipulatives that were provided from the project are one of the first choices from the shelf. The magnetic manipulatives also led students who typically don't like to place 5 or more piece items together to the area to want to explore since it makes the task easier for them.\r\n\r\nThe first week of school we introduced the students to choice time , and began working with the students in the toys and games to assist with making a choice about toys being fun . Some of the students were resistant until some of the manipulative toys were introduced. As I demonstrated how to put the head onto the monsters, then the legs and proceeded with the arms the students were fully engaged. They were able to connect the simplicity of magnetic manipulation while learning how to use fine motor skills to place each item on the appropriate part of the monster's body . When one of my administrators visited the class, she commented that she was so happy to see the students engaged and was surprised at how using the appropriate modifications for the students can keep them motivated to want to use their fine motor skills.\r\n\r\nThis experience set the foundation to the ABA programs within my district. I was able to share the success of having these manipulatives and what impact it made on my students with my fellow colleagues and now they too want to use the same manipulatives to encourage play and engagement within their classrooms. I will continue to promote the importance of play in the ABA classrooms through collegial collaboration. I appreciate all that you have done to make this dream come true to myself and my students.","fullyFundedDate":1742923168651,"projectUrl":"project/support-the-aba-preschool-rockstar-team/9159962/","projectTitle":"Support the ABA Preschool Rockstar Team","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Bunion","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9967387_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1752331901122","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9967387"},{"teacherId":9967387,"projectId":9249538,"letterContent":"The ABA Rockstar Team: Literacy Engagement books are a great addition to the classroom this year. My students have used them in a variety of ways: independently, with partners, in small groups, and even as a whole class. One memorable activity was a phonics game where every student had the chance to use dry erase markers and whiteboards to practice their skills. They were fully engaged and excited to participate, whether working on their own or collaboratively with their peers. These materials have truly enhanced our learning environment and made our lessons more interactive and enjoyable.\r\n\r\nWhen I told the class that these games and materials had been donated and that we get to keep them, their faces lit up with joy. They were genuinely thrilled and expressed so much gratitude and excitement. It was a powerful moment that showed just how much they appreciate having fun, hands-on tools to support their learning.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we plan to continue using the games regularly, especially as we wrap up the school year. They're perfect for keeping students motivated and engaged during these final weeks. Moving forward into the next school year, I plan to incorporate these resources into a special \"Fun Friday\" activity that students can earn and look forward to each week.
