Your support for our \"Literacy is Fun\" project brought us so many wonderful resources that have made a real difference in our daily learning.\r\nWhen the boxes arrived, my students were so excited—it felt like a holiday morning! As we unpacked the Lakeshore Teaching Phonics Skills Activity Center and the Find & Write Blends & Digraphs Center, students immediately gathered around, eager to try the hands-on games. One student exclaimed, \"This is like reading, but it's actually fun!\" These tools have made phonics come alive in a way that worksheets never could.\r\nWe've been using the materials in small reading groups to reinforce decoding skills, and it's amazing to see how quickly students are picking up blends and digraphs. During one session, a struggling reader finally blended the sounds in \"shark\" correctly—and the whole group clapped for him. That confidence boost? You made it happen.\r\nThe colorful Sharpie markers have been a huge hit for our literacy journals and book projects. They've turned ordinary writing into creative masterpieces, and students love using different colors to highlight new vocabulary or draw story elements.\r\nThe Touchland hand sanitizers have also been a classroom favorite—especially the tropical scents! Not only do they help us stay healthy during group activities, but they've also taught the students about hygiene in a fun way. And the headphones have allowed students to use our reading apps and listen to audiobooks without distractions, creating quiet, focused reading zones all around the room.\r\nNext up, we're starting a project where students will write and illustrate their own mini-books using everything they've learned about phonics and storytelling. With your help, they're not just learning to read—they're becoming confident, creative readers and writers. Here's what we've done over the course of the last few months; \r\n\r\nThe supplies provided to us were not only greatly appreciated but well used. Having vibrant markers, quality drawing pencils and erasers, canvas, cardstock paper, acrylic paint markers...all the lovely materials you have helped to provide for us is incredible.\r\n\r\nObviously, the kids were massively excited to crack open new materials that were dedicated just for their use. Many of them are proud to have specialty tools that the majority of their classmates don't have access to. It also gave them the ability to step up their skill sets with supplies that they normally would not have access to. \r\n\r\nThe structure of the club was to allow students to select projects from a collection of lessons I curated. All of them were more labor intensive, requiring more focus to techniques and detail. These were projects that I don't have the time and/or materials to pursue in my art class during the regular school day.\r\n\r\nOur art club officially ended at the end of our second marking period, which was February 1st. Seventh Grade students who were enrolled in the club have started the process of building a body of work for next year's High School application process. \r\n\r\nEighth Grade students who stayed the course during this time built digital portfolios of their work to present to the art programs of their choice, along with letters of recommendation from me. \r\n\r\nThus far,4 the club has been very successful. We've had 3 Eighth Grade students out of 10 in the club accepted to either Rosa Parks Arts High School or PCTI in Passaic County, NJ. Currently, several still have pending interviews scheduled and are awaiting a final determination. \r\n\r\nI truly believe that having access to these materials, combined with their work ethic and a passion for art provided the creative space for amazing growth in each student. I am truly humbled and extremely proud of what these kids have accomplished.","fullyFundedDate":1727289246977,"projectUrl":"project/lets-create-a-new-wave-of-21st-century/8794570/","projectTitle":"Let's Create a New Wave of 21st.
