Because our inner-city, low-income school does not have access to a playground, these recess tools provide opportunities for movement, creativity, and collaboration that our my otherwise would not have. During recess, students use magnetic tiles to build and problem-solve, naturally practicing STEM skills such as planning, designing, and testing their ideas. Other students choose puzzles and board games, which help strengthen fine motor skills and reading comprehension as they follow directions and rules.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the materials, they were beyond excited. Many of them immediately gathered around, eager to explore and try everything. It was clear that having engaging, hands-on options made recess feel special and inclusive. Students were smiling, talking, and working together in ways I don't often see during unstructured time.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, my students will continue to use these tools to strengthen social skills through face-to-face interaction rather than screen time. They are learning to communicate, take turns, and problem-solve together. The stools have also been a valuable addition, allowing my students to sit comfortably during small-group instruction. Because of this, I am now able to better facilitate small groups and organize my classroom schedule more effectively. Thanks to our donors, my students now have a more engaging, supportive, and developmentally rich learning environment throughout the day.","fullyFundedDate":1762143376546,"projectUrl":"project/a-strong-start-setting-up-for-student-s/9590922/","projectTitle":"A Strong Start: Setting Up for Student Success","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Borrero","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9059822_orig.png?crop=398,398,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1755127777508","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9059822"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_132047","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":null,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":41,"percentAsian":6,"percentBlack":40,"percentWhite":8,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":42,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Not specified","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Weighted Average","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"UNCLASSIFIED","ncesMetroType":null},"inStateSupporters":70.6,"schoolId":132047,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Middlesex County STEM Charter School - Mechanic on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Middlesex County STEM Charter School - Mechanic","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-jersey/new-jersey-department-of-education/middlesex-county-stem-charter-school-south-amboy/132047"}
