We've been using them daily to support our writing lessons, and the biggest moment came as we wrapped up our personal narrative unit. To celebrate, we planned a Hollywood-themed Publishing Party—an exciting way to showcase our students' hard work and growth as writers.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the Hollywood decorations, mini star trophies, and treat boxes, their faces lit up with joy. One student whispered, \"I feel like a real movie star!\" It was a moment of pure magic—seeing themselves as not just kindergartners, but as real authors worthy of celebration.\r\n\r\nThe publishing party is just the beginning. After sharing their personal narrative books with their families and staff, students are already excited for our next writing unit. They're asking questions like, \"What can we write about next?\" and \"Can we have another party when we finish our next books?\" The enthusiasm is contagious, and it's clear—they truly believe they are writers now.\r\n\r\nOne of my biggest goals this year was to help my students see that writing isn't just a school task—it's a powerful form of self-expression. This project helped bring that vision to life. Thank you for giving my students the tools and inspiration to share their voices with the world.","fullyFundedDate":1681137367776,"projectUrl":"project/meet-the-red-carpet-authors/7164144/","projectTitle":"Meet the Red Carpet Authors!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Mena","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4552187_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1514944583749","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-elsamena"},{"teacherId":4552187,"projectId":6923319,"letterContent":"Your generosity is already making a difference in the lives of my students.\r\n\r\nWhen the new materials arrived, the excitement was immediate. Many of my students are newcomers to this country, just beginning to learn the language and how schools work here. For some, this was the first time they had their very own set of school supplies. The joy on their faces as they opened their learning kits—carefully examining the markers, math tools, and activity sheets—was unforgettable.\r\n\r\nOne specific moment that stands out happened during a small group lesson. A student who previously struggled to write his name proudly used his new markers to trace the letters on a laminated card. He then turned to his classmate and said, \"Look! I can do it now!\" It was a small victory, but a powerful one. The math tools have also been a huge help—students are using them to practice counting, simple addition, and sorting activities that build their number sense.\r\n\r\nThese supplies have empowered my students not only in the classroom, but also at home. The learning kits you helped fund allow families—many of whom face language and resource barriers—to support their children's education in meaningful ways.\r\n\r\nAs we continue to build foundational skills, our next step is to deepen students' understanding of numbers and letters through daily practice. With the materials you've helped provide, we're now able to offer hands-on, engaging activities that meet students where they are and help them move forward confidently.\r\n\r\nThank you for giving my students the tools—and the confidence—they need to succeed. Your impact is real, and it's felt every single day in our classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1672537407556,"projectUrl":"project/supporting-newcomers-students/6923319/","projectTitle":"Supporting Newcomers Students","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Mena","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4552187_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1514944583749","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-elsamena"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_81966","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":276,"numTeachers":58,"percentFrplEligible":64,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":5,"percentWhite":10,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":82,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"1 - 1","studentTeacherRatio":"4.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"UNCLASSIFIED","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":69.0,"schoolId":81966,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Spruce Street Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Spruce Street Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-jersey/lakewood-public-schools/spruce-street-elementary-school/81966"}
