Your donation is making a meaningful difference in the lives of our students, their families, and the broader school community.\r\n\r\nCommunication is the foundation for all learning and human connection. For many of our students with disabilities, especially those with motor speech disorders, speaking can be extremely difficult—or even impossible. But because of your generosity, I am trained and certified in LSVT LOUD for Kids, a powerful, evidence-based therapy designed specifically to help these students find their voice.\r\n\r\nThis training has empower me to start providing targeted, effective therapy to children with conditions such as cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, developmental disabilities, and traumatic brain injuries—students who need specialized support to be heard and understood. The techniques I have learned will not only benefit my direct students, but are also be shared with teachers, staff, and families to ensure consistent support across all environments.\r\n\r\nWith your help, these students will gain more than just clearer speech. They will gain confidence, stronger relationships, greater independence, and increased participation at school, at home, and in their communities.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in the power of communication. Your contribution is already making an incredible impact on the students I work with, particularly those who face developmental disabilities and communication challenges.\r\n\r\nThe introduction of the sensory swing has brought so many benefits to our students, particularly in the areas of communication, attention, and self-regulation. As you may know, many of our students face difficulties in processing sensory input, which can make it challenging for them to focus and engage in their learning. The sensory swing provides essential vestibular, proprioceptive, and interoceptive input, which has proven to help children improve their ability to self-regulate and focus on tasks.\r\n\r\nThe positive effects of the sensory swing on communication are profound. Swinging helps students become more aware of their bodies in space and enhances their ability to process internal sensations, which are critical to developing communication skills. This is especially true for speech articulation, listening, and language processing. When a child is able to attend to a task with the support of sensory input, they are much more able to engage in activities like speech therapy, language development exercises, and even social interactions. The movement of the swing aids in the coordination of small, precise muscle movements needed for clear speech, which is a foundational skill for effective communication.\r\n\r\nIn addition to these practical benefits, the swing also brings joy to the children. It helps alleviate the stress and frustration they often experience when faced with challenging tasks. The feeling of swinging not only makes them happy but also fosters an environment in which they are more likely to participate and thrive in their learning. Your support has given these children the opportunity to experience the world in a way that allows them to feel empowered, focused, and engaged.\r\n\r\nIt is because of your generosity that these students are able to have a tool that is both fun and functional, one that helps them improve their attention, self-regulation, and, most importantly, their ability to communicate. You have made a meaningful and lasting difference in their lives, and for that, I am truly thankful.\r\n\r\nThank you once again for helping our students swing into successful learning. Your support is an invaluable gift, and we are so appreciative of your commitment to our students' success.","fullyFundedDate":1742346737372,"projectUrl":"project/swinging-into-success-with-a-sensory-swi/9036798/","projectTitle":"Swinging into Success with a Sensory Swing!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. E","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7748207_orig.jpg?crop=720,720,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1728309289567","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrseldredspeech"},{"teacherId":7748207,"projectId":8863301,"letterContent":"I am writing with immense gratitude and appreciation for your generous support of my project aimed at helping children with communication disorders. Thanks to your funding, I am able to enhance my ability to serve the diverse needs of the students at my school.\r\n\r\nAs the only Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) in my rural school, I have the privilege of working with children across all ages who face communication challenges. For these students, the ability to speak, listen, and understand effectively is the foundation not only for learning to read and write, but for success in all subjects and life itself. Many of the children I work with arrive at school facing significant barriers to communication—barriers that can impact their academic success, their social relationships, and their ability to advocate for themselves. The work I do is critical, and I rely on ongoing professional development to provide the best care possible for these children.\r\n\r\nWith the support of this funding, I can now renew my national certification with the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), ensuring that I remain up-to-date on the latest practices in the field. Furthermore, your generosity has given me access to ASHA's Special Interest Group (SIG) for School-Based Issues, an invaluable resource that will allow me to collaborate virtually with other professionals, access evidence-based research, and develop more effective strategies for addressing the unique needs of my students.\r\n\r\nIn my school's rural setting, it is often challenging to collaborate with other professionals who can offer guidance and expertise. The ability to engage with a broader network of SLPs and experts from across the country will greatly enhance my practice and enable me to provide better, individualized support for each of my students. I will be able to address cases I have less experience with, solve complex problems, and ultimately improve outcomes for all the students I serve.\r\n\r\nThis funding will provide me with the keys to not only help my students communicate better but also to ensure they have the tools they need to read, write, make meaningful connections, and advocate for themselves—all essential life skills and fundamental human rights. Your support has made a tangible, lasting impact on the education and well-being of these children, and for that, I am profoundly grateful.\r\n\r\nThank you again for your generous investment in the future of these young learners. Your contribution is making a real difference in their lives and in my ability to provide the best possible care and education to every student I serve.","fullyFundedDate":1738881732511,"projectUrl":"project/keys-to-unlock-communication-disorders/8863301/","projectTitle":"Keys to Unlock Communication Disorders in the Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. E","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7748207_orig.jpg?crop=720,720,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1728309289567","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrseldredspeech"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_82215","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":216,"numTeachers":25,"percentFrplEligible":8,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":75,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":18,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"8.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":50.0,"schoolId":82215,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Lafayette Township School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Lafayette Township School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-jersey/lafayette-township-school-district/lafayette-township-school/82215"}
