With the new texts, students are practicing strategies such as identifying the main idea, making predictions, and connecting a character's experiences to their own lives. Many of the books also introduce rich vocabulary and themes of friendship, problem-solving, and resilience, giving us natural opportunities to discuss big ideas while strengthening comprehension. Reading aloud together, followed by small-group discussions and independent practice, helps students not only build skills but also develop a love for reading.\r\nReading in our classroom is active and joyful. Sometimes students are curled up in the reading nook with a book of their choice, other times they are paired up to share a story and talk about what they notice. During whole-group lessons, we pause often to ask questions, compare characters, and uncover how authors use words to paint a picture. This combination of independent, partner, and group reading creates a vibrant literacy community where students feel confident to share their thinking.\r\nSeveral students have especially connected with the new books. One reluctant reader now races to the shelf each morning to grab a favorite fantasy series, while another student, who often struggled to stay engaged, lights up when we read humorous stories together. These moments show us how powerful the right book can be—it not only supports skill-building but also inspires excitement and confidence in young readers.","fullyFundedDate":1744290645113,"projectUrl":"project/popping-in-to-say-we-love-reading/9010744/","projectTitle":"Popping In to Say We Love Reading","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Tuzzino","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9604475"},{"teacherId":9919854,"projectId":9105784,"letterContent":"I am writing to express my sincere gratitude for your incredibly generous donation that made our \"Robot Bonanza\" project with the Sphero Indy robots such a resounding success for my students.\r\n\r\nThe arrival of the robot and other supplies ignited a spark of excitement and curiosity in my classroom. This project, focused on allowing students to explore fundamental coding concepts through hands-on interaction, truly came to life thanks to your support.\r\n\r\nIn \"Robot Bonanza,\" students were tasked with designing a unique path for their Sphero Indy robot to navigate. To add an extra layer of creativity and engagement, they collaborated in groups to develop a theme for their project. This involved not only designing the robot's journey but also crafting imaginative \"props\" and incorporating intricate details that brought their chosen theme to life.\r\n\r\nWitnessing my students work collaboratively, problem-solve, and unleash their creativity as they brought their robotic visions to fruition was truly inspiring. They were deeply engaged in the process of coding, design, and teamwork.\r\n\r\nYour thoughtful donation directly addressed a critical need. Without your generosity, we would not have had a sufficient number of robots to allow for meaningful collaborative learning experiences. The opportunity for students to work together, share ideas, and learn from one another was invaluable.\r\n\r\nThank you, from the bottom of my heart, for investing in the education and enrichment of my students. This experience with the Sphero Indy robots has undoubtedly left a lasting positive impact, fostering an early interest in STEM fields and nurturing essential 21st-century skills.","fullyFundedDate":1739132648332,"projectUrl":"project/coding-robots-and-more/9105784/","projectTitle":"Coding, Robots and More!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Sudol","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9919854_orig.png?crop=242,242,x0,y9&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1739229327093","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9919854"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_81806","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":460,"numTeachers":37,"percentFrplEligible":3,"percentAsian":7,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":78,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":8,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"12.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":90.9,"schoolId":81806,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Riverview Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Riverview Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-jersey/denville-township-school-district/riverview-elementary-school/81806"}
