In my classroom. I have two students who regularily struggle to attend to assignments and are quite easily distracted. Both of them are working to self monitor their distractability, and when it is ocurring, to wear the noise cancelling headphones. Both students agree, the headphones are supporting their focus. I notice they are actually attending to assignments better and completing their learning. Your donation has made a difference!\r\n\r\nOur district has numerous end of year assessments. During the math assessment and reading assessments, students had the opton to borrow a set of noice cancelling headphones. Several students took advantage of the opportunity. Altohough I do not have scientific data correlating to the benefit of the headphones, my end of year math class average was an 87! The students are proud of themselves and I am too! Your donaton made a difference!\r\n\r\nTwo students were absent for the end of year math assessment. They needed to make it up while the class was having a math lesson. They benefited from using the noise cancelling headphones to reduce distractions while a busy class was learning as they took the assessment. Working with children to help reach their academic and personal goals is truly one of the most rewarding experiences. As a new teacher, there is a lot that I am learning about my students! One those things are the tools and manipulatives that are needed to help my students not only reach their goals but to also enjoy their experience in the classroom in the most meaningful way! As exciting as it can be to have these breakthroughs and bring new and fun materials into the classroom, this journey can get expensive very quickly. Thanks to your generous donations and support, the resources that can positively impact my students are even more accessible now to our deserving students.\r\nI teach students in a preschool self-contained classroom. The primary focus of my classroom is to help support students' functional communication and social-emotional skills. Children at the ages of 3-5 grasp these skills most effectively through play and exploration of new art, building, and sensory toys. At the beginning of my teaching career, I found that many of my students would benefit from sensory experiences where they can squeeze, roll, grab, and create. I had later found that sand play was a great way to give my students this sensory outlet and it also lends itself to allow me to work on communication skills and appropriate play skills. From this point on, sand became a popular sensory activity. Prior to receiving your generous donations, I would store the kinetic sand in baggies. At the point of sensory time, I would then pull out activity trays, the stored sand, and along with sand toys. As I began receiving more students, the amount of materials needed and storing started to grow as well. This is when I found sand kits on amazon. They were amazing, but pricey! I had ordered a few on my own dime and really loved the excitement my kids felt from them along with how easy they were to store and transport. I knew I needed to buy more so that all my students could have access to them, but I also wanted to be conscious of my own spending. This is when I turned to my mentor, who advised me to look into Donors Choose. Thanks to all of you, my students have access to the resources that are truly meaningful to them!","fullyFundedDate":1733269317700,"projectUrl":"project/ms-stovalls-sensory-adventure/8980315/","projectTitle":"Ms. Stovall's Sensory Adventure","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Stovall","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9851345"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_82153","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":628,"numTeachers":57,"percentFrplEligible":7,"percentAsian":13,"percentBlack":4,"percentWhite":64,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":11,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 4","studentTeacherRatio":"11.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":87.8,"schoolId":82153,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Whiton Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Whiton Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-jersey/branchburg-township-school-district/whiton-elementary-school/82153"}
