They did readings about the history of Mardi Gras, watched videos of current celebrations, and talked about Mardi Gras traditions in New Orleans. All of this in the target language of French!\r\n\r\nSince Mardi Gras Krewes are such an important part of this New Orleans tradition, groups of students created their own krewes. Each krewe determined the name of their krewe, what their \"throw\" would be during their parade, their colors and theme, who is in their krewe and who would ride their floats. They took this information and wrote a paragraph describing their information using their current French skills. Then, using the materials purchased with your donations, each student designed a Mardi Gras mask based on their personal krewe. They also discussed their krewes and mask designs with classmates.\r\n\r\nComments made by students included: \"Mardi Gras is so cool!\" \"We need to do more projects like this!\" \"I want to go to Mardi Gras next year!\" \"These masks are so cool!\" \"Madame, I love this project so much!\" \r\n\r\nThank you again so much for your generous donations! This project impacted the students in their enjoyment of French and they have been able to learn about a tradition we usually only spend a day learning about.","fullyFundedDate":1768507515044,"projectUrl":"project/mardi-gras-dans-le-new-jersey/9760748/","projectTitle":"Mardi Gras Dans Le New Jersey!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Madame Dawn Fiorilli","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10280940_orig.png?crop=398,398,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1770937944387","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10280940"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_82145","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1126,"numTeachers":128,"percentFrplEligible":2,"percentAsian":37,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":47,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":9,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"8.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":47.1,"schoolId":82145,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about William Annin Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"William Annin Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-jersey/bernards-township-school-district/william-annin-middle-school/82145"}
