Students have been involved in the entire process—from preparing supplies and taking staff orders to food preparation, organizing deliveries, and personally delivering orders throughout the building. It has been wonderful to watch them practice real-world skills such as teamwork, communication, customer service, hygiene, safe food preparation, organization, and responsibility. One of the best parts has been watching their confidence grow as they interact with staff members and take pride in providing a service that helps build a positive school culture.\r\n\r\nThank you so much for the donation for my coffee club project! My students were SO excited! They immediately wanted to explore the materials and start planning how Coffee Club would work. They especially loved the idea that they would be responsible for taking orders, preparing items, and making deliveries themselves. The students truly embraced having an important job to do and loved knowing that teachers and staff throughout the school were looking forward to seeing them arrive with their orders!\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to continue building our students' independence and leadership within Coffee Club. As they become more comfortable with the process, we want them to take on even more responsibility for organizing orders, preparing items safely and hygienically, communicating with customers, and completing deliveries. We will continue working on customer service, teamwork, problem-solving, and professionalism. Beyond the practical skills, our goal is for students to recognize the role they can play in creating a welcoming, connected school community. We have become more focused on reading short texts more closely, and have less and less time for novels. Novels are the hook for many students to enjoy reading. In order to balance out the use of rich, short texts and engaging material for 4th graders, I requested help with getting some age appropriate novels for our class.\r\n\r\nIn our small group instruction, students with similar needs are grouped together. We have been using the Judy Blume novels as an anchor text for our discussions about literary elements. Some of our discussions have been around the use of idioms and figurative language in the text. Other talks have been focused on character and how actions show us a character's traits and motivations.\r\n\r\nThese books have made my students excited for their small group day. They walk in and say, \"Is today our day to read together, Mrs. Nadeau?\" I love to see the excitement around reading and discussion. They are eager to open a book and see a story through from beginning to end.
