This amazing gift that you provided has made a huge impact in the lives of my students and has helped connect them to their local ecosystem. I was worried about starting plants from seeds and knew that they wouldn't be able to survive outside with the cold weather, but thanks to the grow lights you provided, the seeds survived the colder months! Students got to see their own seeds and plants grow. By the end of the school year, students helped construct an outdoor classroom space with garden beds, and they transferred their seeds into the new space. When they came back to school in August, they were amazed to see how much their plants had grown over the summer. It helped connect students to the outdoors and provide them with a tangible way to enrich their local environment.\r\nThis year, students will be growing herbs that will be used in the cafeteria for school lunches. Not only do they get to raise their own plants, but they will also contribute to the larger school community, which connects to our curriculum on sustainable food systems. I hope to expand upon our outdoor classroom and garden space, but it's been amazing to start this garden and contribute to our own ecosystem. Students have seen pollinators like bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds in the garden, allowing our school to help protect these endangered species. This has been such a meaningful project to our school community, and I want to extend my thank you to all the donors who made this happen. I cannot thank you enough for contributing to this project!","fullyFundedDate":1745689608690,"projectUrl":"project/let-there-be-light-grow-lights-for-gard/9264628/","projectTitle":"Let There Be LIGHT! This unexpected and generous gift has allowed my students to have more enriching and meaningful experiences. The compost tumblers have tied into sustainability lessons regarding waste reduction and food choices. Students were able to try out the tumblers at the end of the school year last year and composted fruits and vegetable scraps from lunches. My students were also amazed when they came back to school and saw how the materials they put in became compost. We used the rich soil from the tumblers in our garden, so students also learned about the importance of fertile soil and how to better care for their plants. \r\nWe are now working on implementing a compost program in lunches for the entire school. This project is able to extend beyond my own group of students and lead to hands-on learning for the entire school. When the 6th graders go to Nature's Classroom, they learn about composting and food waste through an \"ort report,\" and now we will be able to bring back a little piece from Nature's Classroom. We may even do our own ort report! This generous gift has truly been amazing in connecting students to their local ecosystems and giving them a tangible way to take environmental action.
