The shelf has helped us to organize our supplies to build independence and self advocacy in my students. They are able to independently access the supplies they need for groups each day as we learn the routines of self-managing the processes to be ready to work and learn each day. The lights have helped to set a calm environment which the students really enjoy the ability to not have all the bright lights on while working. The snack box has been used multiple times already this year for students who were in need of a healthy snack to help them focus on their learning. They will also last longer than the cheaper versions I've been able to acquire using school funds and even some fundraising funds. \r\n\r\nThe enrichment that we've done using the Rubix cubes has been awesome. My students have all been so excited to use the wiggle seats, bands and rollers while working. The sensory tools have been a great resource in our take a break space and work tables to help us focus. Jenga has become a staple for our Friday game days. We colored the blocks different colors and have been using them to practice our spelling sounds and math facts. My students have enjoyed using Q-bitz to build their visual-spatial skills. Learning to manipulate shapes in their minds to match a picture. They enjoy challenging each other to see who can build a pattern first. We will be getting the clay out next week to practice building words in a multi-sensory way as we build our reading skills. My students have struggled to find what we call \"Just Right Books\" that fit their interests. Through your generous donations, I was able to not only get books that fit their interests, I was able to find books that would help them practice strategies that we've learned in the classroom. A few of these include; making mental images, comparing and contrasting main ideas, and retelling events in the story with the aid of story maps. \r\n\r\nInstead of students struggling to find books that they like, they're now excited to read the next book in their series or share what their reading with their peers. Book discussions have become much easier for them because they finally have books that they're interested in reading. I have several struggling readers in my class this year and I was also able to purchase books on their levels that are interesting to them. They're not feeling left out anymore. \r\n\r\nI hope you can see the excitement and love for books in their eyes as you look through the few pictures that I've included. Each day when my students come in, their eyes light up when they see their new flexible seating chairs at their desks. I switch them each night so it's always a surprise in the morning. Ever since receiving these chairs, my student's work production has increased and so hasn't their learning stamina. \r\n\r\nIn addition to the new seating, my students are loving their new whiteboards. We're using them several times a day in a variety of subject areas. Math is their favorite time that we use them though because it's so easy to erase their mistakes and they're not reminded of their mistakes like they are on a piece of paper (they can never completely erase their mistakes).\r\n\r\nI hope that you can see the joy in my students' faces in the photos I've enclosed.
