The cozy reading area — now complete with a bean bag chair and a big pillow — has become the most sought-after spot in the room. Students are using the reading comprehension and math games, working through decoding activities, and even practicing money skills, all in a space that finally feels welcoming and calm. Our stuffed animals have become beloved \"reading buddies\" that students hold during story time and read-alouds. These little companions have made a real difference in helping kids settle in and focus.\r\n\r\nThe excitement in the room was immediate and genuine. They couldn't wait to get to the reading area to try the games and dig into the Play-Doh. For kids who sometimes struggle to feel motivated or comfortable in a traditional classroom setting, seeing them race to a learning activity is everything. That reaction said it all.\r\n\r\nAs a special education teacher, one of my most important tools is variety. My students need instruction that shifts and adapts — what works one day may not work the next. These resources give me a whole new toolkit for doing exactly that. Whether a student needs to move, squeeze something soft, stretch out on a pillow, or engage with a hands-on game, I now have options. The next step is continuing to weave these materials into our daily rotations so that every child has a pathway into the lesson that works for them.","fullyFundedDate":1768681041313,"projectUrl":"project/offering-new-and-exciting-ways-to-learn/10027276/","projectTitle":"Offering New and Exciting Ways to Learn","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Griffin","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10405731"},{"teacherId":10414912,"projectId":10048204,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support of our classroom! Because of your donation, my students have been able to actively engage with new reading and math resources that are already making a meaningful impact. During reading time, students use the reading comprehension workbooks along with the reading phones, which help them focus and build confidence in their fluency. One special moment was seeing a student who is usually hesitant to read aloud excitedly volunteer and fully participate using a reading phone. In math, the multiplication flashcards, division boards, and manipulatives have brought learning to life during small group instruction, allowing students to better understand and practice key skills in a hands-on way.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, their excitement was immediate—they were eager to explore and start learning right away. The reading phones quickly became a favorite, and the manipulatives turned math practice into something fun and engaging. Thanks to you, we are now able to continue building strong reading comprehension skills and work toward mastering multiplication and division, with plans to apply these skills to more complex problem-solving. Your generosity has truly helped create a more interactive, supportive, and joyful learning environment for my students.","fullyFundedDate":1770676655353,"projectUrl":"project/special-education-learners/10048204/","projectTitle":"Special Education Learners","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Bechtold","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10414912"},{"teacherId":10407445,"projectId":10030661,"letterContent":"The addition of individual writing boards has made a powerful impact on my 5th grade students, especially in their ability to practice spelling words and explore Greek and Latin roots in a more meaningful way. Instead of passively writing on paper, students now actively engage by breaking apart words, identifying roots, and testing out new vocabulary right on their boards. During a recent lesson, students practiced root words like \"struct\" and \"port,\" using their boards to build and rebuild words such as \"construct,\" \"transport,\" and \"portable.\" They paired this with manipulatives from our organizer drawer to visually sort prefixes and suffixes, which helped deepen their understanding of word structure. When the boards and materials were first introduced, the excitement in the room was immediate—students were eager to write, erase, and try again without fear of making mistakes, which has strengthened both their confidence and participation.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, these resources are helping us take our word study and writing to the next level. Students are beginning a project where they will create their own \"word maps,\" using crayons to color-code Greek and Latin roots, prefixes, and suffixes, then applying them in sentences and short writing pieces on their boards before transferring to final drafts. The ease of access to materials through our organized supply drawer has made transitions smoother and allowed us to maximize instructional time. My students use a program called E-Spark, which is designed to meet each learner at their individual level and target the specific skills they need to succeed in 4th grade. Because of your support, every student can engage fully with the program without distractions, allowing them to focus, stay motivated, and make real academic progress.\r\n\r\nIn addition to the headphones, the colored paper, Expo markers, and pencil sharpener have helped our classroom run more efficiently. Students were thrilled to hear they would be able to work with this material for the first time in school and for an entire unit. We began by a comparative discussion on Play-Doh with the material we usually use in school: terra cotta. They were able to realize that although many great and enduring works of art began with terra cotta clay, the benefits for our students in working numerous design works in Play-Doh would be great learning opportunities, as well as very personally enjoyable. \r\n\r\nIn this clay unit, we briefly explored the cultural history of ceramics on several continents, handmade pottery, classical Greek vases, and discussed the significance and ceramic process behind Degas' \"Little Dancer\" or Rodin's \"The Thinker.\" Since both master artworks, and many other great works, needed a clay base, students were inspired to begin to explore the amazing design capabilities of Play-Doh. Our application was to use a variety of tools to fulfill a list of over 10 creative objectives in making pinch and coil \"pots,\" a variety of 3D animals, buildings, food, and engineering-based designs, etc. \r\n\r\nOf the hundreds of masterpieces created these past weeks, some of the most notable were the Artemis II, the Eiffel Tower, a bicycle on a road, a crying wolf, someone wearing a beret, and various landscapes. They also made the U.S. Capitol building, butterflies, sea-life, a tiny tea set, delicious foods and desserts, our school logo, and an astronaut tethered to his ship! The baskets make it easy to find and later replace books while keeping the library organized. Since then, students have found it much easier to locate books that interest them, and as a result, they have been reading more frequently and with greater enthusiasm.\r\n\r\nWe have already begun using the new resources in meaningful ways.
