We use the yoga mats and sensory tools during our morning calm-down time and whenever students need a moment to reset and refocus. One special moment happened during a recent social-emotional learning (SEL) activity where students practiced identifying their feelings and choosing a strategy to regulate their emotions. A few students chose to use the sensory tools, and it helped them stay engaged in the discussion. It was wonderful to see them actively using the tools to support their learning and emotional well-being. My students were incredibly excited when they first saw the materials! Their faces lit up when they noticed the yoga mats and sensory tools, and they couldn't wait to try them. Many students immediately asked if they could use the mats for our mindfulness time, while others were curious about the sensory tools and how they could help them focus. The books were also a big hit— they helped guide important counseling standards that my students needed to receive. The next step for our class is continuing to build strong social-emotional skills while connecting them to our reading and classroom discussions. We will use the SEL books to explore topics like empathy, self-regulation, and problem-solving. Students will also practice mindfulness and calming strategies on the yoga mats as part of our daily routine. Physical Education (PE) equipment can be quite expensive, as of course you want to purchase items that will not only last a long time but are indestructible with students aged five through twelve. With a limited yearly school budget, I am always torn with what new equipment I would like to purchase as well as which items need to be restocked for next year. But with your generous donation, I not only was able to purchase new equipment for two new units and skills but also restock equipment I use frequently! My goal of this project was to incorporate two new units – golf and disc golf otherwise known as frisbee- to be used outside. However, with our weather change, and my eagerness, I quickly changed my planning and decided to do a mini unit with the intention of reviewing later on in the year once the weather gets nicer and incorporating them into our yearly Field Day event. Using our new putters and golf putting mat, I designed a glow in the dark Top Golf experience. Next, I utilized the new disc golf cage and frisbees, along with previous equipment, to set up a \"Throw for Dough\" game where students could earn money based on the target they hit.\r\nI wish you could have seen the excitement in students' eyes when they entered the gym! WOWZA! The thrill and eagerness level were through the roof. Almost all of my students knew what golf and frisbee were, however there was only a handful of students whom had actual exposure to the sports. Therefore, this was a totally new learning experience for 99% of my students. Through the golf lesson, students learned how to hold a putter with correct form and adjust their stroke from toe to toe to hit various balls towards the Top Golf targets. Most students had a rough go at first because they wanted to swing with full power, but they quickly learned that it was a small stroke and more like miniature golf. As for disc golf, all my students knew what a frisbee was. But they did not know the correct hand form and skill to throw it in order to hit the cage target. It was truly a sight to see. Students had to make adjustments to their power based on the weight of all the frisbees, including the new foam ones, in order to have it saucer correctly. \r\nLooking forward, I plan to utilize this new equipment for many years to come. Once the weather gets nicer, I will do review unit of the two new skills plus add them both at our Field Day. The more exposure the better to see improvement! It truly is eye opening to see how many kids are not exposed to \"unpopular\" outdoor sports such as golf, frisbee, tennis, shuffleboard, etc. Most students only exposed or aware of the common sports such as basketball, volleyball, football, baseball, or softball. My goal is to continue exposing and teaching them a wide variety of sports. To which I could not have done without your donation, which is just the beginning. Students not only built their own mini wind turbines, but they also had the opportunity to redesign, adjust, and improve their turbines to see if they could increase efficiency. This experimentation allowed them to test their ideas, observe changes in real time, and collect meaningful data. Because they were able to build, revise, and try again, the learning experience became far more engaging and memorable. Students were excited, motivated, and eager to push their creativity, discovering firsthand that science is not just something they learn about, but something they do. \r\n\r\nMy students love the 3D pens. They have had a powerful impact on my students because they can transform their ideas into something they can see, touch, and create. When students use 3D pens, they move from being passive learners to active designers. They develop stronger spatial awareness, fine motor skills, and creativity as they draw objects in three dimensions.
