This method of instruction not only fosters the love of reading but provides an opportunity to make relationships with the students as we discuss each book. The \"Moving Mountains with Picture Book\" curriculum that I was able to purchase with your generous donation is doing just that in my classroom. It provides high-quality supplemental lessons that accompany exceptional picture books and teach students critical interpersonal skills. This also helps to foster a strong classroom community and inspire lifelong learners. \r\n\r\nEach week I read the picture book that this donation provided and it is used as the mentor text to incorporate social emotional learning into my classroom. The lessons built around this book are designed with a specific character trait or personal skill in mind. There are many activities and relevant learning opportunities for each book. \r\n\r\nThe curriculum is set up to use a picture book each week as a mentor text, which I do. In addition, it is my goal as a teacher is to provide as many opportunities for my students to hear quality text so I read at least one picture book each day of the school year. The books I have chosen this year supplement the lessons that the are presented in the mentor text. This also gives me the opportunity to use several of the activities included in the \"Moving Mountains\" curriculum throughout the week. \r\n\r\nMy students have not only enjoyed the books that have been shared so far this year, but also the activities. Many of these activities give students an opportunity to share their thoughts which is helping to create an understanding and risk free environment in my classroom. The \"Something Good\" poster that the students created after reading the first book this year has been my favorite to observe. It started with a powerful discussion and culminated by creating their own \"Something Special\" that was hung in the school hallway for other classes to add to. \r\n\r\nI would like to express my deepest gratitude for your generosity. Teaching has become a very challenging career. It is my hope that the material that you have provided for me though this donation will assist me in trying to meet the social emotional needs of the students I teach this year and years to come.","fullyFundedDate":1750253170076,"projectUrl":"project/picture-this-building-a-classroom-commu/9245114/","projectTitle":"Picture This: Building a Classroom Community Through Picture Books","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Wright","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9581269_orig.jpg?crop=131,131,x0,y4&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1744133754269","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9581269"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_78955","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":450,"numTeachers":19,"percentFrplEligible":47,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":70,"percentIndigenous":19,"percentLatinx":3,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"23.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":37.5,"schoolId":78955,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Homer Community School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Homer Community School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/nebraska/homer-cmty-school-district-31r/homer-school/78955"}
