I teach 4-8th science and social studies. 4th grade has made their machines and 7/8th grade are going to follow at the end of their current unit.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, I specifically remember one student making the comment \"How are we going to use actual cool toys in science?\". The students enjoyed reading about soil and learning from the \"Seed, Soil, Sun\" book. Sometimes they enjoy learning from differenet material than what I use on a daily basis. This was a nice touch to the classroom and their education.\r\nThe Lab Aids soil kit was a great activity to implement for showing students the different soil textures. This along with the soil horizons diagram gave them a better perspective on the topic. Comparing the differences and similarities allows the students to connect the needs and requirements needed for different plants in these soil types and depths.\r\nThis spring, students will connect their knowledge from this lab and lesson to the soil they use and see everyday. We will also plant seeds to compare the nutrients needed as well.","fullyFundedDate":1727102418772,"projectUrl":"project/whats-up-with-dirt/8802759/","projectTitle":"What's Up with Dirt?","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Bruner","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9702096_orig.jpg?crop=1616,1616,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1726714616025","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9702096"},{"teacherId":9708105,"projectId":8754095,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for donating to our classroom. We have started our new Winn Dixie books and study guides. We are focusing on comprehension, making predictions, and summarizing. I am excited to watch them grow to love this story!\r\nToday many of my students enjoyed looking up the constellations mentioned by Opal in the book, drawing them, and learning facts about them. They also were very excited to read the next few chapters!\r\nReading appears in many different subjects in my class. We enjoy reading our open court stories and focusing on many skills such as asking questions for clarification and making predictions. We of course also come across reading in every other subject I teach in Valier so again I appreciate your donation so much.
