The students were asked to create landforms out of the modeling clay. They named their islands and wrote a wonderful story to go along with it. The colorful pictures and intriguing titles instantly made them curious. I told them we were going to be doing a project with these books later, but they couldn't wait. Almost all of them picked one out to read at their desks. \r\n\r\nWhen it was time for them to do the project, I had each of them pick out a book/ topic. They were each going to read a book and then create a slideshow presentation to share some information that they learned. One at a time, they each chose a book and none of them were disappointed with the one they ended up with. All the books were so interesting! \r\n\r\nThey took a few days to read the book and put together their presentations and they all turned out so good! We were amazed by some of the facts we learned. Sometimes, it is difficult to get 4th graders to engage with nonfiction books. We have enjoyed reading all of these stories and have been able to produce a couple of amazing art projects that reflect our understanding of key concepts taught in reading and science.\r\n\r\nWe have also been able to work more frequently on our whiteboards as we practice spelling words, cursive writing, and math with the new box of dry-erase markers. Using our whiteboards allows us to warm up, practice briefly, and show our work on our math problems from our workbooks. This is so helpful to everyone.
