While pencil and paper work is an obvious necessary and plays an important role in learning, my students thrive with multiple modes of learning using hands-on materials which they can manipulate and think independently. \r\n\r\nThe first day I introduced the Dry Erase Number Line Boards, the students couldn't get enough math and didn't want to stop for lunch! The boards are a game changer for teaching multiple grade levels and a variety of strategies, facilitating math talks, and providing individual problems for students while working in small group. Using these boards allows the students to easily correct mistakes, share and change strategies, and move on to another problem. After presenting and using the boards in small groups, students freely and consistently utilize them while working independently. I witnessed an immediate improvement in skill understanding and application with one particular previously struggling student. We will be utilzing the Place Value Answer Boards next semester and I anticipate my students to be just as excited and the resouce to be just as effective as the number line boards!\r\n\r\nThe Pocket Chart Squares have been helpful for displaying each week's high frequency words by using a different color pocket chart for each grade level. When I introduced the Aizweb Phonemic Awareness Magnetic Elkonin Dry Erase Board during our Heggerty Phonenic Awareness whole group exercises, students were excited to take a turn \"teaching\". We are now using them during small group reading lessons. \r\n\r\nI saved the Torlam CVC Word Builder sets to be opened last week. During our classroom party, each student opens a Christmas gift for our classroom. The students were delighted to punch out the letters and pictures and help put the sets together. They were anxious to use them right away. It is always a joy to watch students finding joy in learning! \r\n\r\nThese are just a few examples of how these materials are impacting my students through creative learning approaches that allow students to independently exlpore, discover patterns, and make meaningfully connections that expand their knowledge. \r\n\r\nThank you so much for being a part of making learning come alive through giving my students the opportunity to learn with hands-on materials!","fullyFundedDate":1727073210598,"projectUrl":"project/all-hands-on-deck/8813638/","projectTitle":"All Hands on Deck!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Lori","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9773670"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_78607","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":28,"numTeachers":2,"percentFrplEligible":58,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":92,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":7,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"14.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":null,"schoolId":78607,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Swan Valley Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Swan Valley Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/montana/swan-valley-school-district-33/swan-valley-elementary-school/78607"}
